New rider from Virginia

Post by woolz123 » Sun Sep 04, 2011 11:46 pm

I bought a 1980 GL1100 a couple of weeks ago and it is a blast. I have been able to ride about 600 miles so far and I like it more with each passing mile. Looking forward to many great miles in the wind on this bike. This forum has a lots of great info. The first thing I did was change the motor oil and rear end gear oil, with the help of the how to sections it was easy. Thanks :D

Welcome from the east coast of Florida. That is some beautiful country up there. You better get some miles in before winter shows up. :D

If you have no history on this bike, maintenance wise, replace the timing belts. flush and change the brake fluids at minimum to what y ou have already done. timing belts are cheap, napa/gates belts vs a destroyed engine. And, since wings fly like hell, it is good to know the brakes are tiptop shape. Enjoy the ride...
