Input on a 98 Goldwing 1500SE with 95k miles (buying)

Postby Arcane » Mon Oct 17, 2011 2:47 am

I am pretty new to motorcycles in general so I am looking to you guys for some input before I shell out for this bike.

Here is the bike I am looking to buy. It is a 98 Goldwing 1500SE, it has 95k miles on it. I have seen it in person, but have not ridden it yet (I assume it will run just fine, or so the salesman said....har), but it looks flawless in person. It also comes with a trailer that matches perfectly with the Bike.

So my question is, what sort of common issues should I be looking for in a bike like this and what would be a reasonable price? I have heard 95k isn't too many miles, but I am sure that depends on how well the bike was kept.

Any input I can get before I lay 8k down on it is greatly appreciated.

Here is an article that tells what to look for when purchasing a used gl1500. That looks like a beautiful bike. Can't tell for sure but that sales tag looks like $7989. I think that is pretty steep in this economy. I hear of '98s or newer going for $5 to $6 grand all the time. Good luck! Tom

First of all you want to hear it running and I am assuming you did.
Secondly you want to ride it. Make sure you can take it for a long enough test ride getting it up to speed and going through all the gears.

It does look like it has been cared for and there are a few extras on it. Can you get a maintenance record for it?

Price to me doesn't sound too bad IF it includes the color matched trailer.

Yeah! I forgot about the trailer. Not to bad with that.
