MRI

Postby maestro319 » Wed Nov 02, 2011 3:53 pm

Just got back from having an MRI, the test from Hell!!! I had one about 20 years ago and, ya know what?? They haven't improved on it at all. It is like lieing in a coffin with a jackhammer going right next to your head. I was given those rubber earplugs, then they put my head on a sort-of tray, slide a head holder type object over my face to keep my head still, slap earmuffs on my ears and snap up wing type objects to really tighten those earmuffs down, slide me into the tube and the TALK TO ME!!!! I am a little hard of hearing and left my hearing aides at home. So I in the tube and the tech wants to carry on a conversation! DUH!! Almost an hour later they let me out and told me I could have a DVD of my test. Huh?? I guess I can go home and look at it. Of course i wouldn't have any idea what i am looking at. Anyway, enouigh bellyaching. I need to clear my head. Gonna go out and ride for a while. See ya all later.

The real reason the MRI tech wanted to talk with you was to make sure you wasn't dead....

Me too. :) I had been up very late the night before, my appointment was at 8 am - and I had to be there two hours early. I slept through almost the entire thing.

I had to do that about 10 years ago, they lay you in a cacoon but first they injected me with some alien juice and they leave you in there for a while...I ended up having a cath done at the hospital, I guess all was well I'm still kicking...Now, after watching House enough times and ER I feel that I am qualified to examine your MRI  , I won't even charge you...Bring it...

By the time I get to the MRI I will be all healed up. I have never had an MRI before, and didn't know what to expect. Thanks for the insite into the subject. Well guys. I "had" a pituitary tumor. The pituitary is the small pea-sized MASTER GLAND that controls the other glands and their hormones. I had an approx. 1" x 1" x 1" jelly like tumor surrounding mine. Only symptom was a little peripheral vision blurriness that seemed to be getting worse. Thought it might be cataracts, which is very easily taken care of, but Nooooo...I had to have this "thing" that was so large it was pressing on the optic nerve and causing the problem. On Tuesday, Nov. 22nd I had one of the best neurosurgeons in Illinois, if not the country, remove it. He went in through the right nostril, breaking into several sinus cavities and various membranes to get to the tumor. Then he pulled it back out through the nose. Ugh!! I came home on Thanksgiving Day and have been at home since then recovering. It is not a pain-free recovery. At least for me. My head constantly hurts. My right ear canal hurts. My nose has, for the most part, stopped dripping blood, but I am still getting some clots dripping into the back of my throat.
(But other than that Mrs. Lincoln, how'd you like the play??)
Anyway, I am home, and hopefully getting better by the day. I have many friends and family who have kept me in their prayers and that gives me comfort. The trouble is, I don't think my vision is any better. Maybe in time. Here in Illinois I have a few more months before riding time anyway.
Thank you for asking Lilbeaver. I really appreciate it.
BTW: my doctor and others have said that approx. 20% of the population is walking around with a tumor like mine and don't know it.

Hey Maestro,

Glad to hear you're doing alright. The pain fades, and I'm sure your vision will clear up once your body has stopped being offended by the invasion it has just experienced. Good news to hear that you're on the upside of all of this now.
