crashed my bike

Postby biker4christ » Fri Nov 04, 2011 5:49 pm

well my 82 is nothin more than srap metal now. last fri night i was headed home ,all at once it pulled hard to the right,i tried to steer it back to the left but something was stopping it from doin what i wanted,im not sure if something broke,or got stuck between the forks and the fairing. it happened when i let off the throttle and as on any bike the front forks slide down a little from torque, the last thing i saw before impact was one of those cable type gaurd rails as i thought ,oh this is gonna hurt!
i hit th very beginning of it at 55 mph, broke off the first 2 posts at ground level, bent the next three over.the bike went end over end for about 125 ft, i flew atleast 150 ft  ,after it all stopped i laid there a min till i realized i was still alive. i got up and walked towards my bike,by then someone stopped and told me to sit in the back of thair suv until paramedics arrived,as it turns out,i spent 1 day in the tauma unit,3 days in the hosp room, broken tail bone,2 fractured vertibea, other vertibea with small pieces broken off, fractured anke, fractured wrist, broken rib with fracured sternum(chest bone), serious contusion in left knee, so im ok,it coulda been alot worse.
first time i saw one of those cable gaurd rails, i thought to myself,i'd sure hate to hit that on a bike.
back home now, facing a long recovery but happy to be alive 8-)
i'll be ridin my vw trike by next season so i wont be needin anything from the wing, its an 82 asp, if anyone wants parts off of it im gonna sell em at a fair price, just send me a PM, all i ask is u pay shipping and give me a day or so to see if what you need is still any good. ill try to check back often as i can, thanks,,
i cant believe i made it thru this one, i geuss God aint done with me yet lol ;)
God bless and ride safe out there folks :D

The wife and I were involved in a crash last year down south. North Carolina I believe it was. Went over a seventy foot drop off and the bike ended up against a tree. We were lucky enough to walk away pretty much unscathed and rode the bike for the rest of our vacation. WE LUCKED OUT big time.

Now on a serious note...Man I'm so very happy you didn't get killed....I hope and wish you a speedy recovery, so lick those wounds and get healed up now ...ok... And say a special prayer for all of us.....Was it at Night or Day....your crash?

I am glad to read you are well considering the other possibilities.

What is troublesome about the crash is reading that the bike steering was affected severely without known cause. Such behavior is not common, yet makes this writer alarmed. One should take caution in checking the front end often.

It's good to hear you survived, I'm sure you have a lot of pain and suffering to endure, but thank God you made it through. I always wondered who came up with those cable guard rails I don't think they'll stop a car and you just proved it won't stop a bike, you may have faired better if they didn't present an obstacle there in the first place. The places I've seen them installed aren't protecting anyone from a ditch, lake or anything, just open field or a large grassy median, so what were they thinking?

Sorry to hear about your crash. Best wishes and prayers for a speedy recovery.
PM sent too.
Some scientists claim that hydrogen, because it is so plentiful, is the basic building block of the universe. I dispute that. I say there is more stupidity than hydrogen, and that is the basic building block of the universe.

Really glad you are OK. I have been there too. I was a Police Motorcyclist and one winter, a few years ago, we were all off the road due to ice. We spent the days polishing and cleaning our patrol bikes. When the weather improved we were back on patrol; the first day back on the road I ended up under a Mercedes. I look back and smile now because I had the shiniest wreck in the scrap yard.
