carbs

Postby jlowest » Mon Dec 21, 2009 11:13 pm

Hi, anyone out there with carburator experiance? I just baught a set of carbs for my 79 GL1000 I thought I would inspect before installing. I noticed one carb had a rubber puck the other 3 have the alum. pucks. Does anyone know if this is correct? I think acording to the manaul all the pucks should be alum.

sounds like someone has been in your carbs before you got there , who knows what else has been tampered with
i would suggest you go to Randakks cycle shakk web page-check under tech tips for carbs etc--i also beleive you may download manuals for GL 1000 at this site no charge
I hope the carbs you bought will match your bike , you can find this out on the Randakk site also , or from a downloaded manual
Good luck
Terry

Yes my carbs I bought looked great on the outside but when I got into them it was a mess. I did check before I bought them they were the correct carbs for my bike. The reason for getting new ones mine had a broken float post on one carb. I think I am pretty good with the new ones now, after going through them completely. I learned a lot through this experince. The guy I bought the carbs from gave me another set for my troubles it turns out that set want fit my bike though. I may rebuild them and sell to recoup some of my money.

Randakk sells a post repair kit, which works very well,( i know because i have it installed)--he also has a video on carb rebuilding and the required parts which helps a lot
I found it worked well for me as i had no previous experience with carbs at all--good luck !

I went to Randakk's web site last night, lots good info. I found out that the extra carbs I have now are for a 1975 goldwing so maybe I will start looking for one of these to rebuild or just overhaul the carbs and sell them. Thanks for the input. :)
