Hello from "thumper327"

Postby thumper327 » Fri Jan 06, 2012 10:24 pm

I just bought a "96" 1500 Gold Wing. It is my first road bike. I have owned street bikes in the past although I am an old offroad rider and still ride amateur flat track in the vintage and seniors classes.
I thought it was time to get a Wing as it is the only thing that makes sense on the long haul so that the old girl and I can do some touring. A buddy of mine has had several sport bikes and then went to Harley in order to slow down. After 4 of those shakers he bought a new 1800 and declared that if he had bought the wing first he would have saved over $30k he lost on the Harleys.
I do need on owners manual for the 1500 if anyone has one they don't need. I have a Haynes Manual but it is pretty basic for a shop manual and doesn't cover much on the controls and accessories.

Dear Thumper,
As you are now a Goldwing rider, You must CHANGE YOUR NAME!
Godwings are a long way from the ungodly thumper.
Happy ridding and I hope you're ridding yourself of the old thumper. Now that you are no longer stuck with that old girl with one jug. (When I rode a twin, I used to say that a bike with 4 or 6 jugs was a bitch of a dog - but I 've changed my tune)
Sincerely,
Cheese on the Wing

Thanks for all the replies and welcomes. I apologize for not replying sooner. I still work part time but it seems like full time lately. I work nuclear power plants during refueling outages and have been on the road pretty much since my original post.
Cheese, I am still a died in the wool thumper freak and will always be. I cut my eye teeth on a BSA Gold Star and currently own one and looking at another. I flattrack a TT500 Yamaha and have several vintage SR500's and Honda Ascots in the shop.
In the spring of 1977 I rode a new XT500 from Gainesville, FL to Vancouver, British Columbia. I experienced just about every weather condition from 85 degree weather in Florida, 1/2" hail and rain in North Dakota, below freezing temps in Montana, rain in Idaho with snow in the upper passes, and finally riding into super high winds that had me leaning at about 15 degrees to the right side,in eastern Washington. I had to stay in fourth gear all day as it wouldn't pull 5th against the wind. I was really surprised as it pulled the mountains in 5th with no problem.
The wing is my 2 wheeled Cadillac. I am considering the Iron Butt Rally in 2013 as it is held every 2 years.

Welcome to the board. Anything you need information wise should be available here, probably for free with a good thank you!

Green Dragon, thanks for the reply and link. Doing 6/12's at a power plant near Toledo. Have 2 more weeks and then I'll be wingin it back to Florida for some Wing time. Today is my day off so I am catching up on email, laundry, shopping, etc. etc.
