Do you have a vintage ride??

Postby dawgout81 » Thu Feb 02, 2012 9:21 pm

Just wondering since this is a very interesting group of people....many of whom keep older Wings running like new.

What is the oldest bike you currently own?

I believe mine is a "Tote Goat". Great off-road overgrown mini-bike. Could literally go anywhere and did. Unfortunately, I don't know it's exact year. I bought it 25 years ago in Phoenix for $250.00. Rode it all over the desert in hunting expeditions. Then as my kids got to riding age, I took it to northern Wisconsin where all of us rode it for 15 years in the north woods near Eagle River where Grandma and Grandpa had a place. Now my kids are grown and we haven't ridden it for about 5 years. Time to get it out and spruce it up for the grandkids (oldest is only 2, so I have some time yet).

It was already old when I bought it, but I don't know what exact era it is from....guessing late 40's or 50's. Any of you know more?

I also have a couple of Honda CT 90's (trail 90's) from the early 70's. For some reason, I've always liked them.....dual range tranny, etc.

Anyway, just curious as to what your vintage rides are?

I know the request was for currently owned, but, I had a '77 kz400 and had to sell it(last summer) :( to make room for the wife's bike. Still a great running bike when I sold it to a college kid.

I have a 59 BSA 650cc Road Rocket. Its in pieces now but will roll again when I have more time to rebuild it. I used to ride it all over the place 25 years ago. Also have a 73 shovelhead chopper in the man cave waiting for a new owner, when I get around to it.
Ride safe, Todd

Let's see, besides my '76', '77', '78' and '79' GL1000's, I also have a '78' CX500, an '82' GL500 Silverwing and a 1966 BSA 650 Lightning. I've finally gotten all the parts I needed to restore the '77' and '79' and when I'm finished with them, I'll be tearing the old BSA down to frame and bringing her back to life.

You folks have some nice vintage rides. Great job of including pics.

My tote goat is currently 7 hours away and stored for winter, so a picture won't happen for awhile.

Guess my '82 GLI counts as a vintage, doesn't it ?!
I know I'm sure outa place in the current GWRA Club I'm riding with! Every one of them is 2002 or newer.
Then along I come on mine - no fancy lights, no chrome to speak of, no fancy heated seats, etc.
just a good clean-riding cruiser.

Thanx beaver. I'm in the throws of yetanother yearly repaint. A taste of which is in the "OH MY" thread I think you started. I'll post more pics of that progress as it comes. ;)

Do I do my own body work? Well Dawg, it's most definatly 40mph body and paint. It looks god at 40mph or at 40 feet. Once you get close you'll see all sorts of flaws. But for a rattle can job, I think it's better than most. t'sall in the prep. Sanding, lots and lots of sanding! fallowed with a wipe down with 50/50 denatured alcohol and water to remove any oily residue that might cause the dreaded orange peel!

" Hey" thats all that counts Hearseman, is that you are having fun.
41 here this afternoon, and saw two bikes go by here on the shore of Lake Michigan.
Sun is out,and some are sure out enjoying mother nature.

No I trailered it back to Ga. My posterior had yet to be conditioned for a long haul. But I got an interesting introduction to wingin by all the positive responses from other bikers aling the way.
