kickstand indicator light

Postby Wilecoyote » Wed Jun 10, 2015 9:05 pm

I have read about quite a few of you guys wanting to add a kickstand light to your gl12 00's but I never seen any pictures. Figured I wound share what I came up with. Just used a 12 volt led from radio shack and a hood switch from a car alarm. I may install a relay as to kept headlight off till I put kickstand up in the future should I choose to install HID headlight.

Thanks for this post, great idea. Wonder if it could be taken further and rather then run a light from the switch, maybe have it interrupt the ignition switch when the stand is down. If the motor won't start with it down, then it should be impossible to ride off with it down.

I definitely could wire it with some relays and
diodes tying into the neutral switch to do that. However my aspencade neutral switch doesn't always work. Would be a pain for me to have to sit on bike with kickstand up while it warmed up if neutral switch decided it wasn't going to work for me.

I did very much the same thing on my 1100, only I used a sealed magnetic reed switch, I used J-B Weld to bond the magnet half to the kickstand, and the reed switch part to the frame. When the magnet moved away from the (normally closed) reed switch, it supplied +12 volts to a flashing red LED that I mounted on the dash.
