I've put together a tutorial-type video based on accumulated pictures from my initial manifold build originally posted on Steve Saunders Goldwing Forums.
Hope it helps someone with their build...

Excellent. Much better than the last GL1000 homebrew manifold that I saw. The plenum looks well flowed, it looks like it would run very well.

I know this is six months later.

The center piece for that is the air-cooled VW center section used after market to install a progressive carberetor on the type III squarebacks. One of those kits can be picked up complete with carberetor for 400 bucks, new. Then you just modify the runners, or replace them with pvc pipe of the correct size.

With the weber carb, where does the vacuum advance go (from the carb to "where")?

hcmorkel, it depends on which carb you are using.

The VW center section is widely available, yes. To get proper performance from it in our application, heating the floor of the plenum needs to happen. The video design will work, as most all home-brewed designs are not heated and ridden on a regular basis as proof-positive. Heating the plenum (the center section) allows for continued and consistent fuel atomization from throttle valve to intake valve under any atmospheric condition that I've encountered. A unheated plenum (or manifold as a whole) cannot provide this, in my experience, from a cold start through and to normal operating temperature and under varying atmospheric conditions. Volkswagen's design, in practice, heats the carburetors intake air supply from exhaust heater boxes to accomplish the same result.
