Re: How to unlock a GL1500 trunk without keys
I just happened to stumble onto this topic. All of these ideas and methods are great. I never even thought about the concept of locking my key in the trunk, and of course, it will happen next week! Truth be told, I hardly ever lock my trunk. But times aren't what they use to be and people do just about anything. I will probably go with the duct tape and a spare key hidden somewhere on the bike. I'm not the best in trying to remove or grab something without messing something up else.
Great ideas!

Guilty as charged, did the dummy thing yesterday. Not paying attention Duh
Now I have this (and a 3 1/2" hole in the bottom of my trunk ) which coincidentally is right above my license plate bulb ( silver lining on a cloudy day).- BENJEE2112

EVERYTIME I CHECK IN ON THIS SITE I'M AMAZED. "BRILLIANT" WINDMAN. I SAW YOU ON YOU TUBE WHEN I WAS LOOKING SOMETHING UP. IMMEDIATELY HUNG UP AND CAME HERE TO CHECK ON IT.
I WAS WONDERING IF I HAD TO TAKE MY SADDLES OFF OF MY "NEW TO ME" 95 1500I TO GET TO MY BATTERY.I JUST HAD TO TAKE THE SEAT OFF FIRST TO MAKE IT EASIER TO REMOVE THE SIDE COVER.THEN SAW THIS. TOO COOL!! A WHILE BACK I LOST MY KEYS AT THE BEACH. AND COULD HAVE USED THIS KNOWLEDGE. THANKFULLY I TRACED MY STEPS BACK AND FOUND THEM. I'M GOING WITH THE DUCK TAPE ON BACK OF THE PLATE. ALREADY DID THAT JUST NOW. i'M ALSO GOING TO KEEP ONE UNDER BLACK TAPE IN THE TRUNK UNDER THE CARPET AS A BACKUP IF THE DUCK QUACKS AND FALLS OFF..THANKS AGAIN GUYS....BENJEE

It seems to me that there are plenty of places to hide a spare key. My preference is a location that requires removing some screws to get to it. That way it will never fall out, nor be seen by anyone snooping around. And you can always borrow a screwdriver to access your spare key (since your own tools will no doubt be locked up!).

My hidden spare key was hidden with the thought that I would be in the most desolate, inhospitable place imaginable, with no access to tools.SlowTyper wrote:It seems to me that there are plenty of places to hide a spare key. Just keep a spare set of keys somewhere on your bike or person

My turn at this wasnt about losing keys it was about disassembling the rear trunk and not reading and understanding ALL the instructions like making sure the bits and pieces are where they need to be when your finished.

You can tape a spare key to the bracket that holds the battery in place. All you have to do is take the side cover to get to it and that doesn't require any tools. Put a small piece of carpet on the bottom of one of the passenger pockets and tape the key under the carpet. I wouldn't worry about anyone snooping in pockets on your bike. Seems kind of unlikely to me, but I guess it could happen.
