Good timing! I started disassembly yesterday... so very usefull to me.
What I'm still searching for is the light bulbs (both types). That's why I took it apart; I want to replace them but I can't find any supplier.

I already know the partnumbers; XAMR001SA and XAMR011SA (Panasonic).

Does anyone have any suggestions?

Frank

I don't know if it is the case here; but I have successfully done this in a car before. The light bulbs I replaced had a rubbery sheath (in this case, it would be blue) over top of the light bulb. I was able to peel the rubber sheath off the existing bulb, find a similar sized bulb, use it and put the sheath over it.

Of course, if this was my bike, I think I'd be looking to figure out how to replace the light bulbs with LEDs, so I wouldn't have to be doing this again anytime soon. :)

Hi Jadf,

I already knew this site and have been searching it for the bulbs. Perhaps I overlooked them, but I can't find what I need over there.
Did you actually find the lights at this store or is it just a suggestion?

Great!

Found the original bulbs.
They should be arriving any day now.
Hope I still remember how to get the radio back together ;-)

I can not tell you which partnumber is which radio but
depending on what kind of 1500 the partnumbers of the '90 GL should be
39100-MN5-010 or 39100-MN5-020 for a 'normal' '90 GL1500 and
39100-MT8-770 or 39100-MT8-771 for a '90 SE model.

Honda used several manufacturers for the 1500 radio's;
Panasonic made RM1500A, RM-30G, RM40-G
Kenwood produced the KRM-100H which was used in the Interstate models.

Probably there are even more.
I never found a complete list of radio's used in all models.

Fantastic. My husband is getting ready to replace his radio. This will help him alot....hey, how many miles do you have on your 1500? Ours is a 1989 and we have 179,852 miles on it. Last year we went coast to coast pulling the trailer without a blip and so far we have ran up to Americade in NY and down to WV for a rally. We are supposed to do 3 more before fall and it runs like a champ...just alittle cold starting up. How are your bikes running? deb sorrick from Maryland

Hi, We have 231,000 km, which should equate to about 140,000 miles on our 1997 1500. Bought it in April/10 , we have been riding it fairly regular, just local trips, a couple of 400 mile trips, Just had the Alternator quit shortly after we purchased it but otherwise, Runs like a clock. I just installed the harness for heated garments, as we do live north. Edmonton Alberta Canada. We are hoping for some good fall weather to do some rides, but maybe not. We have had frost here in the mornings several times already

OK, I'm pretty dense, so I gotta ask:
What year(s) of 1500(s) had a CD player as part of the radio system??????
I thought all were Casette players!

None. If it has a CD player, it's aftermarket (or custom).

I switched all mine to LED. I've taken pictures of the whole process, just haven't written it up yet.
