So turkeys can fly.....wonder if WKRP turkeys were hampered in any way...hmmm. My dad lives in the Gold Country in CA, ane gets 10-50 turkeys on his property at any one time......I am sure they just do not just stroll up the road. Or maybe they do

Years ago the DNR tried to re-establish wild turkeys in this area. They've done very good. They are actually a hazard to riders and drivers. Turkeys do fly up into trees to roost at night. They will also fly to escape, but don't count on it. If they are standing (or walking) on the road you sometimes have to come to a complete stop for them. After warning some friends riding with us about the presence of turkeys I had one fly across in front of the windshield. They fly about as far and high as pheasants, only if you hit them they're 3 to4 times the size and weight of a pheasant. I really don't want to hit something 15 to20 lbs and the size of a beachball.

We had 8 wild turkeys in our back yard last week and were amazed to see them flying and landing in a tree. They actually roost in trees!! They can also run up to 30km per hour....faster than I can run !!

I can guarantee they can fly !!! This past summer I was on my bike heading to work. I was doing 60mph. All of a sudden one flew up right in front of me. I barely had time to duck my head forward when we met. Thank God I was wearing a helmet at the time. If I wasn't I'm sure I would have been injured. Unfortunately for the turkey she forgot to put hers on. She flew straight up in the air and landed in the road. I turned around to see how bad she was hurt, and get her out of the road. She looked like she was on an all night bender, with her head hanging down, and just standing there. I tried to push her off the road, but she wanted nothing to do with that idea. She just tilted her head and looked at me as if to say " what happened"? As I was now running late for work I had to leave her there on her own. I saw a truck stop in my rearview mirror, and am pretty sure they picked her up and took her home to help her out. Thanks to the concerned driver for giving assistance.
