Misunderstanding with the Ex

Postby tom84std » Sun Feb 03, 2013 11:32 am

My Grandson's name is Thomas. His mother, my daughter insists on using his name when talking to him. Somehow I feel it too formal to call a five year old boy "Thomas" so I just call him "Tooter". Similar to my cat's name "Kooter" but that's purely coincidence.
I've been divorced from Tooter's Grandmother for fifteen years but we're still good friends. I picked her up yesterday at her house to run some errands. While driving, I told her that I was taking Tooter to have him fitted with a proper motorcycle helmet. At five years old, he's old enough now and he'd really get a kick out of puttering around the neighborhood behind me.
She sat silent glaring at me as if I had just informed her that I had enlisted in the Ukrainian underground army. After a few minutes I looked at her and asked "WHAT???"

She said "Let me get this straight... You're having your CAT fitted with a motorcycle helmet??!!"

Sounds like the answer is yes for Kooter though per the pic, it already has one.

I still call my boy "Spud" (granted he is 14, and autism, but he still answers to it). I am going to be broken hearted when he comes to me saying "Dad, I am not a potato", I can hear him doing it, lol.

Here jn Switzerland, the land of rules, regulations and stern police-people, my son said "when can I ride on your motorbikes with you?" I said "When you're 1.50m tall" (he was 10). He grew, like, 20cm in a month! Now I had to go buy him protective gear, his own helmet and so on. He did it on purpose... ;)

We have the same rules at the Disney amusement park too.
When asked by a youngster (I have no children) when they can ride with me...I tell them when they are 18 years old. :)
But I usually give in and ride them around the block anyways....Securely attached to the bike, with all the riding gear and helmet. ;)
I have extra gear that I aquired over the years.
They look like 10 year old football players when I get done outfitting them....It's fun.
Kinda like this....

Those kids probably put themselves on "stretchers" with ropes tied to their ankles and armpits so then can grow to the required heigth, I can really see them doing this, lol.
