Do You Know or Can You Guess?

Postby William Ennis » Tue Apr 09, 2013 11:57 am

The attached photo is of a monument to 2 motorcyclists in my neck-o-the-woods. Anybody able to tell the story of why this monument exists? I'll wait a while and post more if no one can offer the background information which resulted in this monument.

I'm not going to use Google. We'll get more entertaining answers that way.

So my guess and using your California location as a clue;

On the left Danny DeVito and on the right Arnold Schwarzenegger in a deleted scene from the movie Twins.
"It´s a friggen motorcycle, it´s not supposed to be comfortable, quiet or safe. The wind noise is supposed to hurt your ears, the seat should be hard and riding it should make you s**t your pants every now and then. "

Paul Revere and his partner riding through Santa Paula on a "very wet" night yelling "The British are coming"

How's that for a story, and a clue as to the background, lol.

It wouldnt be Mr Harley with Mr Davidson. They look young enough, and the bikes look old enough, so they could be the movers and "shakers" of the mc world. Did they have ear protection back in those days, or where they all born deaf?

The world is not going to finish today, as it is already tomorrow in Australia and New Zealand, and other islands of foreign nations such as Guam and Samoa.

Okay, a bit more background... Paul Revere and his partner were police officers. And it was not the British that they were warning of. And the main dude's name was NOT Paul Revere.

Dude on the left is signaling to turn right, and the dude on the right is saying..."Hmmmmm"

So, monument on the MSF (Motorcycle Safety Foundation) "Be Aware Of Your Surroundings" tribute to motorcyclists and safety (convincing??)

From the style of the badge I see, I'd say it has something to do with the CHP (and I don't mean Jon & Ponch, either).

Well, we all did that, Todd. Then we made up clues from what we learned. Yes, it is a good story, if I do say so myself, but never as good as the 'lil' beaver buckle tale.

All these years I thought it was "The Goldwings are coming."
Obtaining the maximum enjoyment from operating a motorcycle is a mind game. Keep the mind on the ride from exiting the friction zone to kick stand down at the end of the ride.

So what is it? I refuse to google (verb). Two cops on bikes? Monument to wartime dispatch riders?

In 1928 there was a catastrophic dam failure in San Francisquito Canyon, north of L.A., Calif. The failure was due to a faulty engineering design of William Mulholland. The wall of water gushed out of the canyon, scooping up everyone and everything in its path - all the way to the distant ocean, approximately 35 miles away. Along that route were 2 sleepy (this took place at night) little towns, Fillmore and Santa Paula, CA. Two motorcycle cops rode ahead of the rushing water and alerted as many residents as they could. The monument celebrates their courage & devotion to duty in their life saving actions. You can read the background on the internet use a search string 1928 San Francisquito Dam.

That is such a great story. It is so much like the heroes of 911, if it weren't for these dedicated people a lot more would have died.
