Smartphone or Ipod touch

Postby keithg64 » Sun Dec 04, 2011 8:18 pm

I have Verizon and am looking at getting my first smartphone or ipod touch. I cant make up my mind. Maybe I should ask my wife what I want.

What do you guys have or use the most?

I've got an HTC Evo 4G on Sprint (Android) and it's without question the best phone I've ever used. It's big...but it has a huge screen, it's fast, with the 4G speeds it sometimes rivals my home Internet, and it can do just about anything.

My wife saw mine and immediately wanted one for herself, so now she has one too.

An Ipod touch is not a phone, it is a mini tablet, per se. An Iphone is probably what you are referring to. It was the first, best and most expensive of the smart phones, and although others have caught up or nearly caught up, the Iphone is still at the top of the heap for applications. The Ipod touch will not run about half of the applications designed for the Iphone due to the lack of connectability. It has Wi Fi and sometimes 3G, but is not cell phone connected. A prime example is the GPS application.

I have to disagree. As someone who develops mobile applications as part of what I do for a living, I develop for both iPhone and Android, and Android is a FAR superior platform in terms of applications and capabilities. The iPhone is an overpriced, cooperative multitasking, limited capability device with flashy graphics and the "Apple" name, where Android is a true multitasking device with far less restrictions and much more power.

There's a reason the iPhone has been steadily losing market share and Android has been steadily gaining market share over the past couple of years. Android has been outselling iPhone for over a year and a half now.

And that is indeed your right. And Android may be outselling Iphone where you live, but it certainly doesn't where I live. Either way, whatever someone else gets is for them to ultimately decide based on information they can gather, so two sides to a story at least gives perspective.

I did mean the Ipod touch, but cant decide if I want the smartphone and pay the extra service and be connected all the time or get the ipod touch and have no contract but have to really on a wifi connection.
Im getting closer on deciding on the htc thunderbolt or incrediable 2 but my daughters touch has been fun to.

Actually Android has been outselling iPhone in Canada since Q1 2010 and has continued to gain since then.

Worldwide, Android phones now outsell iPhones by more than a two-to-one margin: Android Outsells iPhone 5-to-2, Has Nearly 50 Percent of the Market

HTC Thunderbolt is a great phone. I have an HTC Evo 4G, and I use it to browse and post on here all the time. :)

GEE, I wish I could add something intelligent to this BUT, I DON'T OWN A CELL PHONE!!!!!!!!!! In fact, I'm getting a Kindle Fire for Christmas and that will bring ME up to speed in THAT realm. I'm kind of like a third world country.

The Kindle Fire is more or less an Android phone without the phone part, so you'll be up to speed in no time!
