Saber Cycle Ignition Switch 84 GL1200

Postby nothingbut2 » Fri Dec 28, 2012 2:16 pm

Saber Cycle Ignition Switch Failure.
This might be useful to those in the know. I recently purchased an ignition switch for my 1984 GL1200 from Saber Cycle out of Kansas City Metro Area, Kansas. The switch I recieved malfunctioned in the manner the early switches did that spurred the Honda recall (1984 early 85). In addition, the cover plate came off and after just two weeks of service my key - entire key ring fell out of the switch completely on I5 in So Cal. I notified Saber explaining the situation and asked for a refund. They refused; they offered a replacement. There are no second chances with loss of ignition under operation and indicated a refund was necessary. I returned their defective switch for investigation and they refused the package - sent it back to me. Creative marketing I suppose. I opened a case with the BBB in Kansas 9339676 and disputed the charge with Bank of America. As of 12 27 12, they have accepted no culpability and continue to refuse their item for investigation. I have purchased China OEM and Indian made Barracuda parts for my Wing in the past and while not completely happy with the quality, never had a safety issue with an item until installation of the Barracuda (made in India) ignition switch. I will pursue this with the KS State AG and safety depts. until I am happy with Saber's acceptance / resolution. This is an incredible issue with a dangerous product with which Saber refuses responsiblity. Please beware and avoid any ignition items sold by Saber Cycle. I have been riding over 30 years and while it's not much to loose power on a bike; it is while riding on a busy interstate in an overpopulated part of So Cal. Saber Cycle should be held accountable and they should be ashamed. Please speak out if there are similar issues and buyer beware.Keeping the Shiny Side UP

You will never get any satisfaction or even an apology from Sabrepsycho, uh, I mean Sabrecycle. It is operated by a psycho, by which you should be aware of by now, if you had ANY correspondence with the outfit. There used to be a website devoted exclusively to the demeaning, mad, crazy, arrogant, twisted emails that customers would receive from this outfit. It is run by a woman and maybe 2-3 family members, whom I feel very sorry for. Parts are mainly sold via ebay to unknowing first time customers and those who are of gluttons for punishment, if they are returning customers. Ask a simple question and get an answer off the bottom of a boot sole. Their timing belts are labeled "made in Japan" in the photos, but what you may well receive are ones Made In China. You won't get Sabre to take them back. I wouldn't use them on my lawnmower.

Not that I'm a Saber Cycle defender or anything....but did they request the part back?
Was freight paid by you? Did you have an return authorization number?

"
3. Only faulty and defective items will be exchanged or refunded. Claims for faulty or defective items must be made within 14 days of purchase or invoice date. Defects and missing components will be remedied by replacement only. A 25% restock fee will be imposed on returns if we are not allowed to replace. Absolutely no claims by third party installations will be accepted.

4. No exchanges, returns or refunds on consumable parts, such as filters, timing belts, sparkplugs, cables, bearings, brake pads, gaskets, engine parts, brake caliper rebuild kits, carburetor components, switches, windshields, seat covers, all electrical parts, etc. and tools. All mirrors, being a highly perishable item, are sold without warranty, or guarantee of any type.

5. Requests for return of faulty items must be authorized by us prior to returning any goods. Your invoice number is required to make a claim. We will assign a Return Authorization number which must be noted on the return shipping label. Parcels returned without a valid return authorization number will be refused
"

Simply reading the return policy would turn most people to a different vendor. :|

EDIT: I see you had two weeks of use on your bike of the part. It's out of the warranty period. You're done, I'm afraid.

Sabrepsycho has "fired" customers for asking questions or requesting simple customer service. Meaning, they got to you once, know you will never be back, and therefore you are BANNED by them from ever doing business with them again. Notice that most everything they sell is listed as "consumerable", even if it hasn't been used, is the wrong item, is not what was advertised.
Once they have your money...Sabre is done with you.

Thank you Steve B. I appreciate your neutrality.
When a set of keys falls out of a 2 week or a 2 month old switch made in India (the point being, it is new enough to force remedy), while riding on an interstate and ingnition is lost, you may trust the supplier, in this case Saber Cycle for a replacement, I will not. I am an enthusiast and will not trust my life on the same item again; ever. I ride every day no matter the weather.
To answer your question, I paid shipping on the initial shipment and my return. Whether I recieve a replacement or a refund; the point is somewhat moot when the supplier refuses the return in order to perform an an investigation; as was the case with Saber.

In reality Steve, you post disclaimers similar to those posted by sellers. But you are courteous and there are remedies for those of us who ride everyday and take the sport with incredible passion; to the point of bulldoggedness when it comes to product failures and suppliers reponsible for investigation of said failures - but instead choose the path of neglegence, as is the apparent case with Saber. There is enough documentation out there to provide the KS AG; along with my video of the defect as it can be reproduced to make sense to those who can force remedies - and thereby determine the proper course of action; which in this case there will be. The failure is serious enough and can be verified by a third party. The part has not been adulterated by me or anyone after the sale.
Steve, that is the nice thing about the US with a bulldog customer - there are always rememdies to those steadfast enough to fight for them. I am one of those folks. Thanks for the response.

Unfortunately, you've learned the hard way what happens when you deal with Saber Cycle.

Have a look at their vendor record for many other bad experiences with them:

If you're really serious about pursuing this further, don't send your only physical evidence to your opponent!

Further, the disclaimer posted was directly from Saber Cycle website. Basically a two week warranty, from the moment it is ordered. Nice of them to include order packaging and shipping times in the tiny window.

This should get you back on the road:

I have heard a ton of negative comments on this company. I did purchase a couple of chrome pieces (windshield facia). I didn't have any problems but clearly I wouldn't buy anything from them that would or could cause a breakdown-most all if not everything they sell is of poor quality aftermarket junk. Your better off buying a used piece off Fleabay.
