Chatterbox Duo Blutooth headsets

Postby motorhead1977 » Sun Apr 28, 2013 6:59 pm

On 4/27/2013 I purchased two Chatterbox Duo headsets for our two full face helmets. They were to be paired with chatterbox BTD sending units for use with our 2009 Goldwing. Installation and pairing occurred without out difficulty. However, the sound quality of the headsets is so incredibly substandard as to render these units useless. To say I am disappointed would be a gross understatement. I cannot believe that they would even place something of such poor quality on the market. I got better sound quality from a cheap 2 transistor radio I owned in 1962! The sound was so "tinny and scratchy" that it was virtually un-listenable and un-hearable at 60 mph even behind the fully faired 2009 Goldwing. Poor, very poor.

I was able to speak with a ChatterBox representative about this issue and learned that ChatterBox ONLY issues credits. He gave me a return authorization for my two head sets and told me they would upgrade me to their XBi-2 unit as it had true "hi-fi" speakers. At no point did he dispute with me that the sound quality was as poor as I explained to him! I did have to pay for the return shipping and for the priority shipping back to me as I had a time crunch with leaving shortly for a trip to the Smokey Mtns. The new units arrived yesterday and I'll test them out tonight to see if it made a difference. More to come.

Well after installing the new units I can say the sound quality is good. Certainly liveable and enough to enjoy the music on our 900 mile trip to the smokey mountains. Batteries lasted about 6+ hours of continuous use. Volume is loud enough for even my not so good hearing. One of the helmet units had only the right side speaker functioning but Chatterbox issued a return authorization no problem. I used it for our trip and during the ride both speakers started working. I'll return it to them anyway when we get home. We did seem to have to re-pair the units one time but it went easily. More at the end of our trip.
