Fire Creek Ignition bridge, power ports, volt meter & GPS mount

Postby thomba » Thu Aug 13, 2015 7:22 pm

Several weeks ago Bluewaterhooker posted a link to an EBay seller who was offering the Fire Creek ignition bridge/gauge panel. I jumped on the link and ordered 2. As of today this guy is still selling the Fire Creek brand for $22, he is also offering for $35 + $7.50 shipping the color matched panels with a Honda part#. The $22 panels are all black.
The stock ignition bridge (in my opinion) is wasted space.
The after market Fire Creek bridge has numerous possibilities.
I installed a digital volt meter, and 2 aux 12 volt power ports (one switched & one always powered). The switched port has my FM transmitter with 4 GB of my music. The always powered port I use for my GPS.
I cut out a base for the Garmin GPS suction mount from 1/4" plexiglass. I beveled the front edge with a belt sander, sanded the bottom and painted back, sides & beveled edge black. drilled 2 blind holes and pressed in 2 brass threaded inserts. Mounted it to the ignition bridge from the back with machine screws. Removed the protective paper from the top and it's ready to go.

Anybody that has used the Garmin GPS ball mount knows that the display turns down every time the bike hits a bump. The suction mount is solid if securely installed on a smooth base but .... insurance is good. I have installed a quick disconnect tether to the suction mount and fashioned a display stabilizer from a thin piece of stainless rod. This stabilizer makes the display rock solid.

Over the years I have read on this forum, questions from members asking about where to mount aux power ports and/or volt meter and GPS. This ignition bridge provides a few possibilities. It is not limited to two round gauges which are frequently displayed. Lots of possibilities. Let your imagination run wild. $22 is a cheap experiment considering the money we spend on plastic chrome. Anyone who decides to buy the Fire Creek bridge remember that they are all black and only black if you need a color matched one this guy offers them with a Honda PN. My 2000 red 1500 SE trim is black so that was ok and that is the one pictured. My other a black 93 1500A has blue/gray trim so it is not a match. May use it anyway.

I love the look of this bridge, and I hope to order one soon. I really like how yours is set up, gives me some good ideas for mine, when I get it.

Do you mean the link to the EBay seller? These are for the GL1500 only.

Remember, the $22 Fire Creek Ignition bridge is only in black. Check out this guy's other items if you need a color match with a Honda part no.
