Beartooth Highway Infromation

Postby rcrab » Thu May 09, 2013 12:36 pm

Rimrock Wings has just brought it to my attention that main street through Red Lodge Montana has been torn up. The road between Roberts and Red Lodge is going to be torn up. Also the road between Belfry and Bear Creek is torn up. Gravel on all three highways. So if you are going off the Beartooth into Red Lodge the best route to Billings is from Red Lodge to Roscoe then on to Columbus. If going off the East Side the mountain to Red Lodge and wanting to go to Cody Wyoming take the same route but cut across from Columbus to Joliet then on to Cody. You can fuel in Red lodge, Absorkee or Joliet.

Thanks for the Heads Up/Info on the construction in that area. 8-)
I plan on riding through there again this year,
I always ride 78 from Red Lodge to/from Columbus, as it is way more entertaining and has always shown itself to be very low in traffic volume! ;)

Are you going to the Beartooth Rally? It is a blast especially the rodeo. Good way to meet new people from all over the state. Don't forget Evel Knievel Days Butte, America July 25th, 26th, 27th and the 19th Annual Beartooth Rally July 19-21, 2013. Hope to see you there.

Montana's largest fourth of July fireworks show is in Laurel, Mt. Parade starts at 12 noon. Get there early, no parking after 10 am. Stuff going on all day. Pancake breakfast in morning at Veterans park, parade at noon, baseball, swimming, picnics, and car shows then the fireworks about 10. Traffic is a bear going in and out of town after the fireworks so beware, in town and on the freeway. Great time if not in a hurry. Motels are cheap there too.

I hope any of you that are there during the 4th of July have better luck with the weather than I had last year. Temps throughout Montana were in the 100s. Almost all fireworks displays were cancelled due to the fire danger. Even up on the pass at 11 in the morning the temps were in the 90s with almost no snow.
If you stop in Red Lodge there is a restaurant on main street called Bogarts which happens to be a Mexican restaurant. The food there is excellent.

Again, thanks for the info ..... but anyone who knows Dusty, knows that I very rarely stay in a hotel/motel and I don't like crowds.

Instead ... on the 4th, we'll be riding through the Beartooth/Chief Joseph from our overnighting spot in Columbus, MT en route to here, doing what I love best (besides riding! ;) ), while exploring more of Yellowstone and Cody for a couple of days.

Who knows ... we may just wander in to Cody to catch a Rodeo and any fireworks, if available, on the evening of the 4th! ;)
