Took a little ride over Memorial Day weekend

Postby cardinal » Fri Jun 07, 2013 2:48 pm

It looks like the majority of posters here are East of the Rocky's, so I thought I's share a few photo's of the area between Fresno, Ca. and Salt Lake City.
First thing you run into when you head North out of Fresno is
Yosemite:

They call this Whiskey Tunnel because it's four fifths of a mile long. Old guys will remember when we bought liquor by the fifth (of a gallon) which is 4/5 of a quart.
I don't know about you folks, but tunnels on a bike gives me the heebie jeebies

Here's the view of Half Dome as you come out of the tunnel:

Here's Half Dome from the back side at Olmstead Point as you go over Tioga Pass:

I'll see if I can dig up some more pics of the area's we visited, when I get a little more time.
Ride on and be safe,
Bob

You just passed my parents....Sonora. They are north of Yosemite. I dig that place, amazing how ominous Half-Dome is when you are standing on the valley floor looking at it.

Keep posting the pics....

Yeah, Calzone, I had perfect weather all except the day I started for home.......then I spent about a third of the day in rain and 2/3 in heavy wind.
If I had gone out or come back by way of 108 I'd have been right in your parents back yard, Mag!

A little past Tioga Summit, looking back up towards the pass, there's a pull out with this view:

Oh! Wait......I must have been distracted by the old beat up, faithful, bike that brought me this far and I was depending on to get me back and forth across Nevada and Utah. Sorry about that, I'll see if I have an older pic of that spot

Pretty barren area up there, but there's a nice waterfall in the back ground:

I'll post up some of the pics between Mono Lake and Tonopah in a bit.
