Bloomington or Madison Indiana - what would you do?

Postby gof » Fri Sep 20, 2013 11:09 pm

I am thinking about a 2 day trip, one overnight. I am in Nw Indiana.

I am thinking the Bloomington/ Brown County regions because of the winding, hilly, wooded motorcycle roads around Nashville and Morgan Monroe State Forest etc.
I was there last year, but just passing through and it was amazing.

What would Madison have to offer from a destination perspective and from a motorcycle perspective vs. Bloomington?

Your thoughts, suggested routes, hotels and bbq places appreciated.

Well I live about 2 hrs from nashville indiana and it is beautiful this time of year. Not sure when you are going but I personally like the bloomington area. There is alot to do down there, on the other hand I have never been to madison either. Like you I am fond of the hills and curves. We live about an hour from bloomington, on day my wife said lets go get a milkshake...I said where do you wanna get one she said bloomington. It made for a fun few hours...we never did get the milkshake just ended up at Fazolis right near the IU campus and had lunch and headed back home to get the kids off the bus from school. You might also keep in mind the covered bridge festival up in park county is coming up around the 2nd week of october, lots of nice hills, scenery and curves up there as well as some of the best food you will ever eat.

Not to hijack the post, but when you say Indiana I can't help but go back in my memory to my Indiana experience. On the interstate in a brand new truck. Working in Ohio but on my way home to Texas for Christmas. About dusk, beautiful Indiana countryside about sundown. In a split second's time. Up-close profile of a beautiful buck deer with a full set of antlers, just before the impact. Watch yourself out there!

Deer are a problem across Nw Indiana for sure, especially at dusk.

Depends on what you are after. Bloomington is the northern part of the scenic area and Madison is the southern. I live an hour from Madison and 3 hours form Bloomington. Yo can ride the same roads in different directions and never hit a straight line if you are creative. I would start in Nashville/Bloonington and ride southeast to Rising Sun, Vevay, Madison, down to Louisville and all over the area, different sites, all good.
Do watch for deer all across southern IN at dawn and dusk.

Here's a thought; why not just tour the whole southern third? I'm about 30 mins S. of Bloomington. The French Lick area is very nice. Nice hotel/casino, and lots of attractions, about an hour or so S. of Blmgtn. We love riding in that area.
