Tunnel Of Trees and Mackinaw, St. Ignace and Sault Ste Marie

Postby nitefuzz » Thu May 01, 2014 4:35 am

Trying to plan a trip up north to ride through the Tunnel of Trees and then go on up to Mackinaw spend the night in St. Ignace and either go out to the island or go on up to Sault Ste Marie to see the locks. Three day trip in the first part of June, probably the 9th thru the 11th.

When you get to the end of the TOT, stop in at Legs Inn at Cross Village for a bite to eat! ;)

I-75 north of St Ignace is a boring ride, so stick to H 63 for the ride up to SSM

Also, M22 is a beautiful ride!

I agree with Dusty on the boring I-75 North of St Ignace, but also south of Mackinaw City. I like to get over next to Lake Huron just after I pass Bay City on the trip north onto Highway 23, which meets I-75 again at Mackinaw City. Taking Highway 31 up the coast of Lake Michigan would have the same enjoyment factor. Downtown St Ignace used to have a great coffee shop, but it was closed last time I was there because it was this time of year and none of the seasonals were open yet.
It ain't about the destination - it's all about the journey

+1 to Dusty on the Legs Inn. A great place to get authentic Polish cuisine. And a place with a lot of character.

Hope you get some great weather.
