Pt Defiance - Five Mile Drive - 1978 Honda Goldwing GL1000

Postby swr1977 » Sat May 31, 2014 11:26 pm

I don't know how many riders from the Seattle Tacoma, Washington are here but I was just out today in north Tacoma and snapped this pic of my wing with the Tacoma Narrows Bridge in the background and thought I'd share.

Any others from Washington who would care to share some pics please feel free to post here.

Not with the wing, but I should post my Mt St Helens when I first got my Vulcan....good idea. Lots of good rides in the NW.

It's nice to know there are a few on here from around Seattle!! The weather has been amazing these last few days, spent most of it walking the dogs, but need to get the bike out and take a few pics.. Any recommendations on places to visit? I moved up here 2 years ago so have no idea of nice places to visit

Oh my the lists is endless depending on how far you want to go.

I see your in Seattle so the first place I'd suggest is Alki Beach in West Seattle.

Then there is where I went yesterday with my daughter (Pt Defiance - Five Mile Drive) and to get there go along the Tacoma water front (Ruston Way).

Mt Saint Helens and Mt Rainier are great rides also. I've always wanted to do the Hwy 101 loop around Olympic National park and Mt Olympic peeks but that ride needs to be broken into a few days. If you do go over there be sure to check out Hurricane Ridge south of Port Angeles, just be careful of the wind!

I tend to stay closer to home being I ride an older bike with a few issues. One of my recent rides was down to Alder lake were there is a nice campground and day park. Just north of there in the town of Elbe they have a great train ride you can take. It's expensive but the views of Mt Rainer are wonderful! http://www.mrsr.com/

I've also recently gone over to the town of Steilacoom, Wa just west of Lakewood. They have a couple of parks there where you can look out at the water, McNeil, Anderson, Ketron Islands, with the Olympic mountain peeks in the background (see pics)

And if you feel adventurous....Westport, Ocean Shores, and then east on the 90 from Seattle. What is nice about the NW is that even the freeways lead you to some pretty nice places.

Those were taken from one of the visitors points up the Hwy 504 (Castle Rock/Toutle). I even rode up to the snow that day, and, of course, turned around....my but was clenching way too tight, but it was a great ride. I will have to see if I have other pics on that ride.

I rode the wing up my driveway last week, and slipped in the mud, back tire wiggle waggling, my butt clenched something really fierce. I do not think I will be riding in the snow ;)

My wife and I will ride the CDR in late July from Canada to Mexico, on our dirt bikes!! I can't wait, she has planned all the routes (forest trails/fire roads) we need to ride for 12 days, but we are taking 18 days to allow some sight seeing and the odd day rest, we will be riding in snow for the first 4 days, and will arrive in Mexico for their rainy season!! But it will still be great..

"Less power....argh argh argh argh!!"

As long as you are moving and can hit the limit, that is all that is needed, ya?

And Trasher...that sounds like a good trip, remember the camera, please!

Oh my Black Beauty can "hit the limit" it'll just take the old gal a little bit longer to get there.

Alright I know it's not Tacoma but it is still Pierce County.

How about a wing doing the Purdy Spit on the Kitsap Penninsula.

It is just barely in Pierce County but it is there.

Rain in Washington is called "liquid sunshine" However I understand NOT riding in the rain. Rainy days I'd much rather have 4 wheels and a roof over my head!

When we bought my wife her last car, it had seat warmers.....dug those things. Then my next car had seat warmers, love them. Now her new car has a heated steering wheel (go figure why) and once I tried it, will be nice in the winter time.

Riding in the mist, not a bad thing, as long as it is not after a drought of no rain because of the oil on the roads. I rode yesterday in the "sprinkles" and it was not bad. But no thanks on the rain, hence why the wing, at least I can pack for just about any type of weather. I just now have to find a good set of boots and I will be all set.

Heated seats in a car are great for keeping the pizza hot until you get home! Not so on a GW ;)

The world is not going to finish today, as it is already tomorrow in Australia and New Zealand, and other islands of foreign nations such as Guam and Samoa.

True, there is nothing to hold the pizza down to the seat.....now that is what we need....a pizza holder that keeps the pizza hot on a GW....but alas, we digress

Last summer when needing boots I went to Hinshaw Motorcycles in Auburn. Found a great pair for about $125, Leather, Water Proof, FirstGear brand, All black to match my wing of course.

Black is fine by me, will match my leathers. A new cycle shop opened in Longview close to me, may have to check that out, and also have Loves Leathers in Battleground area, so will have to see what I can get. I have an old pair of standard black boots that are about 20 years old, but still in good condition, but time to upgrade I think.

Auburn, could be a good ride also. ;)
