Donkey Wild Burrough alert

Postby agentburt007 » Tue Feb 03, 2015 10:42 am

I saw the posting on deer alerts. Here in Arizona, especially the Lake Havasu and Parker runs, many bikes ride the Parker Strip. Every year there are fatalities between the Burroughs and bikes. Not like deer when they run in front of you, these stupid animals just stand on the road, usually at dusk, camouflaged in their grey coats. Very dangerous, and they are all over, and I mean plenty of them. They will NOT move for you!

When in Montana a couple of years ago I noticed the big horn sheep were the same way. They even station local cops on the roads to warn drivers when there are sheep on or near the road. Most likely they are protecting the sheep and not fearful for the cars or bikes.

I remember when I was working in Las Vegas, going through Red Rock Canyon and despite all the signs warning about the wild burros, seeing people pulled over at the side of the road. They would hold out food to lure them close, so that they could get pictures next to them. Dangerous, wild animals! Used to see idiots doing the same thing to bears at the garbage dump in Northern Ontario. I remember some guy having his two little kids go "stand next to the cute bear" eating garbage so that he could take a picture. Darwinism at work.

I do work for BLM, and when we find people feeding the Donkeys, they get a stiff fine. It's common sense NOT to feed wild animals, and your are correct, it is stupid. When I worked in Yosemite last year, we had people feeding the bears, and they got escorted out of the park with a nice fine. We call these people "Tourons" (1/2 between tourist and moron) ! hahahahah
Always nice chatting with you. Hows Ohio? Its hot and sunny here today! hahahahaha
