Postby dennislp » Wed Feb 04, 2015 1:23 am

I have to go from stl. to sebring fl sometime this spring most of the time I take main hwy but I will have more time to get there this time. any thoughts on a route I can see more. on main hwy you cant see much doing 85 to keep from getting run over. will be alone so time isn't a worry. thanks.

do a MapQuest from your starting location to your destination, where it says "options", click on "avoid toll roads and interstate highways". it might show you alternative routes. then you can pick which roads you want to travel on.

If you are willing to spend some money there are a number of mapping software programs available. I know Delorme has one but I still use a version of Microsoft Streets. You can give it the start location and the end location and it will develop a route. Or you can start at the beginning and just pick the routes you want to follow. I prefer this method as it allows me to look at the back roads that are not visible on many maps due to scale.

Then you can print real maps with turn by turn directions or download the route into many GPS's.

I have also used AAA maps and just followed grey lines to my destination. When possible I may also follow a particular US route such as RT 50 from Ocean City, MD to California. I don't see anything coming from St Louis headed to Florida like that though.

hey dennislip, try this..........go onto "Bing", click on "maps", in box A type in your starting zip code point, in box B, type in your final destination and it will pull up the map with directions. you can custom set it to avoid toll roads and major highways, then simply print it out so you can have it with you.

been quite a while on since i was on this this. lived in fl for 4 years 11miles north (avon Park) from sebring. best route to travel on would be rt 27 from fl line. speed is around 55-60, very quiet. lots of side areas to check out.
my ride to tn was 710miles. took 2 days, great weather nice traffic all way to atlanta, then took rt 411 to tn. sevierville then home to new market. 08 wing trike (motor trike)

Hello Pertrl64, good to see another contributor. You might like to go to GW Chat and introduce yourself. That way you should get more notice.
