Test for tracking my progress

Postby Wilcoy02 » Fri Feb 13, 2015 12:58 pm

Below is a link to see my progress on my bike. I will be using this for the next couple of weeks to test my spot tracker.
I will be using this on my trip to Alaska this summer.

Please check it out and let me know if it works and you see a map with breadcrumbs.
Thanks.

Hello Wilcoy,

This looks like a great way to follow your adventures. I "spotted" you. And in great detail I might add. :P Riding to Alaska sounds like a blast. I asked my "accountant" if I could go. She said NO. Maybe I should of invited her to ride along.

I've been thinking about getting one of these for ages. I've done the same thing with Google Latitude before, but Google cancelled that service. It looks great though, I can definitely see your breadcrumbs!

Tell your accountant that you will fly her to Fairbanks and you will pick her up at the airport.

On the map you can hit satellite and see the actual ground and trees.

I dont visit this area very often, so please accept my apologies for a late response. I see the map, but it does not show any geographical reference, like a road, highway, town, etc and you would have to load the full map to find out where you are. On switching to the satellite image, there did not appear to be a "2" breadcrumb in my vision. Is this correct?

Zoom out some.

#1 and #2 were taken 12 seconds apart from the same exact location. I'm guessing that's why #2 doesn't show.

It appears the first link is keeping track of my most recent trips.

It shoots a beam to a satellite every 10 minutes. If I am sitting still it will go to sleep mode and not send anything. Once it feels a vibration it will wake up and continue to track.

So I think I have found the correct link for you to follow on my way to Alaska.
The ONLY problem I have is that it will only keep my crumbs for 6 days.

I need to find someone out there that can put the daily screen on a site that will keep all the crumbs for my entire trip. So if you are computer savy tell me how to keep the crumbs somewhere.

To see previous days just scroll down on the time stamps.

Make sure you hit satellite and the map at the top of the page. If you get no map zoom out. To see the lay of the land hit satellite and zoom in.

Thanks to all for the feed back on this. I want to have this all set up by May 1 if not before.

For keeping track of the crumbs, try downloading the reference points on the left, which provide the Lat and Long references. That should be good enough to plot a trail.

I am not familiar with this, it is very cool. Can you tell us more about it?

To the left of the map area, there is a table with the 'crumb' numbers listed. If you expand each reference by hitting the "+", it will give you a time, map coords, and reference. Store these in a spreadsheet. Then find a way to apply them to a google map or similar.
