So, decided to leave Rapid City and head towards Colorado. Met some people when we were in New Orleans that said it was really pretty so it's time to have a look for ourselves......" But first lets go to Sturgis and see what all the fuss is about. Some big Rally takes place for all the Goldwing riders in the world in August I am told!

While we are there, let's whizz across to Deadwood. Wild Bill Hickok and Calamity Jane's territory. Oh and then to Devils Tower.

Got to Sturgis and had a quick look around. Had a camera failure so headed to Spearfish under the advice of a local chap in the filling station. So off we go!

Spearfish had a Walmart, that has been our place to go when we have needed anything so far while traveling. Bought a cheap camera as a stop gap till we can get ours sorted out.

This was in Rapid City. Saved us a trip to New York

After a scenic ride that seemed to go on for ages we eventually found the Devils Tower, interesting Indian legend about how it was formed, much better than the scientific explaination in our opinion. :D

Devils Tower, you can see the Bears claw marks😀

Took drive through the park and over the mountain. Wow! It was freezing up there and the road was icy and damp. Glad it is Summer.

On the other side we found Moose and Elk. Some guy in a minivan nearly drove into us because he decided to take photos. Twit!

So., back in Austin Texas after traveling South from Cloroado. Time was against us so had to miss the route through New Mexico. Big wind in Oklahoma and North Texas. Cleaned the bike and dropped it back at the shop so the shippers can collect it. Flying to Chicargo this afternoon and this evening back to Doha, arriving tomorrow sometime. Then a hour and a half back to Muscat. Day off to get things in order and then back to work on Thursday and the cycle starts again. Really enjoyed the trip and am already putting things in place so we can come back and do the West Coast and the other bits that we missed, will probably use Austin as the start point again and travel West through New Mexico and carry on from there.

Gosh! Too bad I only heard about your trip after it was finished! Sounds like you both had a swell time in the USA but, unfortunately, you missed visiting Canada!

So, if you still have vacation time, come on back to Canada, the great white north! And if you use US dollars, they are worth about 25% MORE here! So it's like everything is 25% off!

See our great land, unpeopled still, where silence has lease. Enjoy daylight (this time of year) till midnite (and later further north).

I have been across our great land often and can provide you with information for sights to see!

Hi Rob,

What a great trip! I read that you might also want to go motorcycling in Europe. Since I live in the Netherlands, I can perhaps provide some nice tips. You can always send me a PM.

Hello everyone

We arrived back in Muscat safely and all our luggage arived too!

Jet lag is horrible. So could someone please get the teleporting technology sorted? I much prefer the way they do it in Star Trek! "Beam me up Scotty!"

Went back to work on Thursday! Yuk! We should have stayed for another month. I would have but Lucy was missing the dogs!!!!!!! maybe we see a dog trailer in the future!

Started the process to get the bike shipped to the UK and already that is going to be a process I can see. They want money! Vat and duties on something we have no intention of leaving there. Just wanted to use the UK as a base for the next expedition into Europe! It rude that governments are just fleecing people whenever they get the chance...........

Still have loads of photos to go through on various apparatus due to some technical difficulties along the way and having to buy stop gap cameras and then sometimes using our phone when a camera was not close to hand. We will get to it and if I find anything interesting I will post it.

Overall the trip was awesome, the people we met along the road were brilliant, friendly and really keen to hear what we were up to, we had various offers for our accents, mine is a combination. Born in UK just outside London, went to school there, then went to South Africa with my folks. Finished schooling there, now been in the Middle East for 9 years so it maybe a bit of a mix.
Lucy is born and bred South African but is of French Hugonot decent, maidan name was Le Roux, but people were questioning if she was British and one person thought she was from Austrailia.

To all of you on the forum we are really grateful to you for your comments , input and advice. It's really nice that you all took the time to comment on things that we were doing. We will be coming back again to do the West side of your beautiful Country, just not sure when.
I was having a mad idea to go up the West coast! Through Canada, into Alaska and go across the bit of sea between Russia and ride to Europe.................just a thought....

We will remain active on the forum and as we do not have the wing with us here, I will disguise one of our other bikes as a Goldwing for the foreseeable future and post comments on any trips we do from here.

Regards
Rob & Lucy
