Post your map. I am on my way to Mount Rushmore now and then I have to get back to Austin and planned to do Colorado on the way back.

1272 miles in one day is a serious haul! Respect!

to bad you can spend any time in Sturgis during bike week. there is no place like it during that week. Just bring lots of cash everything is 300 % over normal. You can get your Sturgis t shirts etc at the wall on your way in and cut your cost is half for the exact same shirt. Be sure you can get to needles pass on your way to rushmore. great riding and good scenery. If on way to devils tower it happens to be a Wednesday during bike week be sure to stop in Hulett, WY nice scenery there also. Lots to see and do in that area. enjoy your ride and be careful there will be a awful lot of bikes there during that week. Probably around 1/2 million or so.

 I should have known better, but a 7:30 roll out turned into a 8:00 roll out ,,, not a problem since our time didn't start
until the time stamp on the gas receipt... Mark was at the pumps when I pulled up, my wife was one of our witnesses
, she popped a few pics, we got our paperwork signed ,I topped off my gas, geared up, and no Mark... he went back into the store
to take a piss, and buy a taco, then came outside and asked if I was ready to go... :x I got a little pissed when I saw him topping off
his tank  ( he just cost me 7 min.)
our next scheduled stop was eden tx.,,, just a quick gas and go  I pulled up to the pump, slid off my glove ,and topped off my tank,Mark came out of the store, walked up to me and yelled at me that I picked the worst store in town, no food...
ok , fine , unscheduled food stop, I cross the highway to a taco joint, buy a taco and a water , eat the taco and still no Mark,
He's still across the road messing with his suspension adjustments because he hadn't done a fully loaded test ride before the trip... :x at this point I should have just left him, every time I mention our time, he gets pissy, tells me we have all kinds of time...
on several instances before the trip I tried to get him to review the maps with me, but he would just say "why do I need to know,
I'll be following you." So a quick gas and go just cost me 23 min. :P :x

our next scheduled gas stop was in Hamlin Tx.,,we didn't stop ,and we should have stopped in Aspermont Tx. but when we got there Mark said he had plenty of gas to make it to the next
town. Guthrie Tx. (38 miles away) I couldn't remember why but I knew this was a bad idea... :? now I knew what my gas mileage
was since I had done a fully loaded test ride, but when we pulled into Guthrie I remembered, no gas in Guthrie
so now it was a gamble ,40 miles to Paducah Tx. or go back,,, no choice, just go for it,,, Mark ran out of gas 10 miles short of Paducah.  :P He had a 1gal gas can with him but it was empty, what the hell :o :? When I finally
got him calmed down, I took his can into town, brought it back, waited while he repacked his bike, road back into town with him and stopped again to top off our tanks...I pulled up to one pump thinking he would pull up to the other, but he didn't he pulled in behind me and disappeared into the store. I topped of my tank geared up and moved my wing so he could reach the pump, then went inside to get my receipt only to find him starring at the beer cooler.  he hasn't even fueled up yet :? :P only the second gas
stop and he has cost me 45min this was the second time I should have left him behind

the next scheduled stop was Shamrock Tx. this was the only stop on the trip that went as planned. :D

the air temp on my wing said 115 deg. on the road , and free ice water, coffee, or tea, some of the best tap water I ever tasted.   about a 30 min stop, then on to Canadian TX. for a gas stop...at this time he is afraid to go more than 150 on a tank
and I can't blame him. This stop (Canadian) worked out well , I think he was starting to get the picture (about 7 min.) we then proceeded to the Oklahoma boarder for a quick celebration of finally getting out of Texas
at the pan handle OK is only 37 miles across, and there is absolutely nothing out there , :? but the speed limit started out @ 55 & then went to 60, :o boy was I glad to get out of there...

from there we pushed on to Garden city Kansas,,, :o another good stop but by now :o its 9:00pm and starting to get dark real fast...
We make good time into Oakley KS but now it's 11;00 pm ...Mark wants to take a nap at this time, but I'm so pumped about the
IRON BUTT that I'm not needing a nap 8-)

After a brief discussion or maybe it was a dispute , I told him to sleep, sh*t, or get off the pot,by now it was 11:00pm but none the less he needed to stop slowing me down,,, :x I pulled up to the pumps and topped off my tank, pulled out onto the shoulder of the road to hook my phone to the charger and when I looked back up he was in front of me. we got on down the road to the Nebraska boarder and stopped for a quick pic,the sky was so clear we could see the milky way
.
we then proceeded into Nebraska and as we entered McCook NE we hit very thick fog which stuck with us all the way into
North Platte NE,,,turning a 2 hour stretch into 3 hrs... :( this was time for another dispute, but I was topping off my tank the whole time he was bit**en . I knew since this was a scheduled
stop, that I did not have time for his crap this time,,
I knew exactly where I was and how long it would take to complete the " iron butt " so; "you have a sleeping bag, there's a patch of grass with a picnic table, and there's a motel... :x   take your pick, I'm outahere, see you in sturgis..."and I left him here
literally in the middle of nowhere.

after leaving Mark in North Platte NE(2:30am) the fog lifted on the north end of town and I was able to make up some valuable time. :)
next stop, Valentine NE., quick gas & go, 3min. now thats a quick stop,, another quick stop @ the boarder for a pic.
then on to Murdo SD. for the completion of the iron butt,,,found my contacts at the super 8 motel,(7:30 am) almost forgot to get gas, then headed into Sturgis , After crossing a time zone, I made it into sturgis by
11:00 am (10:00 my time)

The wrong riding partner can turn a good trip to sh*t quickly. I've found that right around 150 miles makes a good time to stop, gas up, get a little stretch and a drink. Still have some reserve in the gas tank if needed, and the stretch keeps you alert. I try not to figure fuel too close-the pump depends on it for cooling itself.
