Rented a GW in Vegas, need ideas on where to go.

Postby Droneh8tr » Mon Nov 09, 2015 11:40 am

Well my wife came jumping into the garage the other day while I was working on my New to me 86 GL1200. And she says "Guess what i did at work last night", of course I said "What". She responded with I rented you a 2015 Goldwing 1800 for 1 day while we're in Vegas. I was crazy elated...
So, I need ideas on where to go.
Red rock canyon looks very nice, but that would only take a few mins to get to.
Zion looks nice, but I just don't know if its worth the 2.5 hrs to get to.
Grand Canyon, Hoover Dam... maybe

I'm looking for for suggestions on where to go, places to eat at, scenic roads to take in. Let me know what you think, I'm in the planning stages now.
BTW all this will happen in 2 weeks.
We have no problem doing many hours of riding so be generous in your suggestions.
My friend Alan just said we should go to the Bunny ranch.... No thanks Alan.

Red Rock Canyon is gorgeous, but yes, plan for maybe 20 minutes to get there and perhaps half an hour to ride around if you don't stop. You might want to hop off and hike around a bit while you're there, there are plenty of opportunities. Plus lots of photo opportunities.

Hoover dam again is not that far, and is definitely a must-see.

If you want some fantastic riding roads, take a ride up (and back down) Mount Charleston. Endless miles of twisty, gorgeous roads and scenery. Once you get to the top you can also get off and hike up to (very near) the peak and see some waterfalls.

Reputation is what other people know about you. Honor is what you know about yourself. Our stress about it happens when the two aren't the same. Be true to yourself and to hell with what everyone else thinks!

Yes, Zion is worth the ride in my opinion. But the time of the year, how hot is it? would definitely be a big factor.

You might also want to check with the rental agency and see if they have any recommended routes to ride. They probably know where most people like to go.

There is a lot to see in that area, you might also contact the Nevada Tourist group or the Las Vegas tourist group for additional info.

Another idea I had just now, contact the local GWRRA chapter and see what they recomend . They might even have a member or two willing to act as a tour guide for you. . . .

With just one day to ride you will be better off taking in the Grand Canyon however do not discount Zion and Bryce Canyon. Southern Utah is Fabulous. Actually most of Utah. My favorite place to ride.
