European trip

Postby Rob H » Tue Feb 23, 2016 12:48 pm

Hello everyone.

The wing has a new British number plate, but because I don't live there anymore I had to register it in a family members name.

Makes me laugh. Hope when I do decide to go back that they accept me......

Anyway, going to do I trip into France and see how we get on in May.

Off to South Africa on Thursday for 2 weeks to see the kids and some family. Will do a bit of riding there. On the Fireblade............

Will let you know how we get on

Rob & Lucy

Back from SA and now focused on the next trip. Off to the UK on the 30th May. Riding down to the ferry for and overnight crossing of the Channel. Then 10 days in France.

The only pic we got in SA on the bike taken as we were leaving our friends house.

Well we are packed. Leaving for the UK on Monday. Couple of days there to do some maintanance and then of to France, only problem is the French are on strike for some or other reason so only 40% of the fuel stations have fuel.

This is going to be interesting.............. :D

So . We left Cornwall and headed off to Plymouth to get the Ferry. About an hours ride. British country lanes are very narrow.

Got to the Ferry and through Passport control without a hitch.

That's my Mum.

Ferry was an overnight run, actually about 8 odd hours as they cruised across slowly.

On French soil.
On French soil.
Next morning we arrived in Roscoff France. Weather was gloomy and threatening rain. Dis-Inbarked no problem. Word of caution......... Ships have metal decks that are very slippery when wet! ( that was for the guy in front of us that left the boat sideways :D

We set the GPS for Lunguidic where we had planned to be based. Routes set off the highways and main roads.

We headed towards Huelgoat for our first stop. Stopped at the bar/coffee shop across from the town lake. Too early to start swigging beer and wine( although some locals were inside already doing just that)
We opted instead for the hot coffee to take the chill away.

We made it to Languidic
Me looking down the well. It was dated 1823.

This was to be our base. Nice place. Run by a nice couple Alain and Elizabeth. He spent 20 years selling heavy equipment all around Europe. Bought this place and have 3 cottages of various sizes on the property. They have a small lake( I call it a large pond) with ducks and geese and a couple of sheep and a Ram that likes to butt you when your back is turned.

Cancarneau

"The town has two distinct areas: the modern town on the mainland and the medieval Ville Close, a walled town on a long island in the centre of the harbour. Historically, the old town was a centre of shipbuilding. The Ville Close is now devoted to tourism with many restaurants and shops aimed at tourists. However restraint has been shown in resisting the worst excesses of souvenir shops. Also in the Ville Close is the fishing museum. The Ville Close is connected to the town by a drawbridge and at the other end a ferry to the village of Lanriec on the other side of the harbour."

Not my words but gives an idea.
