The Three twisted Sisters

Post by Sir Rides Alot » Mon Nov 14, 2016 9:38 am

Hello everyone again. I'm down here in San Antonio Texas this week visiting and riding with my younger brother 'WinchesterGFFG" . I had a wonderful ride down here from Pittsburg Kansas last Thursday evening and Friday (11-10-2016) morning.(650 miles one-way) I will be riding back home tomorrow..(Tuesday, 11-15-2016 ) :)
On to the main subject.
The "3 twisted sisters" were a blast to ride on. I had no idea there were mountains located so close to San Antonio Texas !
My younger brother educated me on that fact last Saturday and I'm very glad he did. I was riding my SE 1996 1500 and he was on his 1992 1500 .
We stopped in LEAKY Texas and I had a chicken sandwich called a "Goldwing' and it wasn't bad for the price. :D
Would I recommend riding on them to you all? Why sure. They are NOT the Boston, Rocky, etc. mountains but still worth a visit in my humble opinion.
I would love to hear some of your stories and thanks for the replies a head of time.

Glad you're having a good time, so I decided to look at the map you
posted to see where you are riding.
You posted the pic at such low resolution that when I tried to
zoom in on it, it was just a blur. Can't read any of the names
of places on it.
....oh yeah...tried putting on my glasses to clear it up.
...that didn't make it any better.

Sorry about the low resolution . Are either of these any better? :D
The scale of miles on this last picture sure seems short. My brother and I covered close to 300 miles round trip starting from the west end of San Antonio. :)

I rode down there last fall. Had never heard of the The Sisters, or Three Twisted Sisters, until I started looking for a place to ride in Texas.
My main reason for going was it was getting cooler here and I wasn't yet ready to stop riding. Was lots warmer in Texas.
I didn't have my Goldwing yet, so I rode my 750 Honda Shadow Ace with saddlebags and a homemade luggage rack.
I also wanted to see the Frio and Nueces Rivers that are right there in that area. The weather was great, most of the time. The roads were in fairly good shape and some of those sharper curves will sneak up on you.
I saw lots of deer, giraffe and some kind of African antelope I've only seen on TV.
I really enjoyed riding the Three Sisters and wanted to go again this fall.
But the bike needs some work on it and I can't work on it because I broke my left hand and can't use the clutch anyway!

We have a Chapter ride scheduled there the weekend after Thanksgiving.
Same trip planned last year, but it rained us out.
Right now it looks like we'll have at least 25 bikes.

How were the roads? I hear that there is a bunch of gravel in one area.

For anyone riding the sisters. Just north of 337 on 335 in Barksdale there is a hotdog stand that has some of the best dogs I have eaten. I recommend stopping for lunch there. It is about 1\4 mile past the bridge entering from the South on the East side.

It was nice seeing my brother and getting to ride like we use to when we were growing up. Here's a couple pics of him, of course I had to take him to Luckenbach,TX as well.

Just got back from riding them with the Chapter.
Turned out we had 30 bikes (split into 3 groups).
Weather was great and everyone had a great time.
The place to stop for lunch is the Frio Canyon Motorcycle Stop (after the Lone Star Motorcycle Museum)
