Poker hand = pair of 9's

Post by cyberlon » Thu Jun 15, 2017 11:43 pm

So this last weekend I went on the first poker run on my Wing. She was running well, the weather was favorable, and I got to see some roads that I wouldn't normally take. It was worth the entry fee for me. Along the way, the best out of 7 cards drawn was a measly pair of 9's. Needless to say, I didn't win the big money for my hand, but I got to meet some new people and the second chance drawing ended up refunding my entry fee! There were, according to the organizers, 340 bikes. (although, I think they counted tickets instead of bikes - many were 2-up) This was the largest the even has ever been, so doubly glad I was able to participate. When we all congregated together at the end of the run, I took a stroll through the parking lot. So.Many.Harleys. If the total was 340 bikes, there were about 337 Harleys, one Yamaha, and two Goldwings (one a trike). I spoke with the Goldwing trike owner, he had another Goldwing there, but did not ride it, as he was just trying to sell it. (A good-looking early model 1500 in that metallic grey color.) At the end of the day, after I had returned home, I had put just 340 miles on my recently acquired bike and only developed one issue, so I count it as a full success. Just thought I'd share. :D

nice to see someone else posting a ride report. I've never done a poker run, I don't like riding with large groups. I usually just take out my map of Michigan or ohio and say these are the roads I want to ride on or this is the place I want to be. sometimes I just follow the road I'm on as long as it is paved

Most Poker runs are not group rides. Everyone rides at their own pace alone or with one or three buddies, to eliminate the mass amounts of space a group ride requires. It is safer. Go on a couple and see how you like em. They are fun.
It ain't about the destination - it's all about the journey
