TRIP TIME

Postby GRAPEAPE94 » Sun Jun 05, 2011 5:03 pm

Getting set to put the bike (06 Wing) into the shop for a saftey check up before I start my trip up north. Leaving SW Florida about 1:00am next Sat. morning for a ride to Akron/Cleveland to see the grandkids and my kid brother. When returning I am going to take I 64 east to the Blue Ridge Parkway and ride it down to Ashville. A quick jog up into Tn. and then down here to Venice. Any ideas as to motels along the parkway?

This will get me up to 80,000 on the bike with no problems. Oh by the way I do have three (3) IRON BUTTS under my belt.

Biggest safety concern I would have would be traveling to Akron. :)

Just remember the line from the old Cannonball Run movie,,,,,,,,Ohio is probably the only state that has the death penalty for speeding. Only kidding, Have fun on the way up and enjoy the Buckeye state.

Thanks guys. I was born and raised in Ohio (Bay Village) and remember the days when the state troopers would write you up for 2 mph over the speed limit. I know that traffic around Akron on I 77 is bad. I will be staying at a motel at Rte 18 and I 77 as that puts me about midway between my son in Akron and my brother in Cleveland.

Still would like some advice on places to stay while on the Blue Ridge Parkway.

Looks like I might get wet on the ride. Accu Weather shows the possibility of a lot of rain up there next week. Oh well, I've been wet before. In fact 2 years ago it took me 22 hrs to ride straight through to Fl. in the rain the whole way. 1256 miles.

You're far enough out of Akron there that you shouldn't have any problems. I still wouldn't leave anything sitting out on your bike overnight however.

I've ridden the Parkway (end to end) twice. There are 2 Hotels (and campsites) with attached resturaunts right on the Parkway. Didn't stay in them, I camped at $16.00 per night at the campgrounds. There are plenty of Hotels just off the Parkway tho. If you google Blueridge Parkway, you can look at a map with mile markers and see where the Hotels and rest are. Its a great ride. If you're doing the PW and headed to Tenn. anyway, might as well do the Tail of the Dragon. Only a few miles from the end of the PW near Cherokee. Enjoy your ride. Watch out for the Bear droppings! LOL
