Likely the last ride of the season!!!

Postby dawgout81 » Sat Oct 29, 2011 3:52 pm

In Minnesota it is starting to cool off. Today was a bright sunny Saturday afternoon....still in the low 50's, so 4 of us donned warm clothes and took a 110 mile ride. It will likely be the last one of the season.

The bike is going in the basement (don't have a heated shop anywhere else) for general maintainence (belts, hoses, brake check, etc).

It was good to get out, but somewhat sad as we look at another riding season completed!

All you in the warmer climates, ride well and safely!

I had heavey frost on the windshield for the last week now, not taking the bike to work any more. Its getting cold enough to make me nervous about riding in the dark when I cant see potential ice on the road. Still have the bike insured and will keep riding after work and on the weekends till the snow flies.
Ride safe, Todd

I'll get at least one more ride in to circulate the fuel stabilizer and wrm it up for the storage oil and filter change. She stays on the road year round though. The weather's gettin crazier every year. Never know when ya might be able to squeeze in a ride now adays. :)

Lets hope we can ride yet in November, eating our Halloween candy :)
I see by my log on the bike I had some days to ride in November.

Yeah. I'm thinking as long as it is still in the 50's to 60's with NO SNOW here in IL, I can still, get in a few short rides before winter storage. When it gets down to the 40's, well that's a little chilly. Ridable, but still chilly.

I draw the line @40. Below that, riding just ain't fun. It starts to be painful. Plus I start to feel like Charlie Brown with all the layers on to stay warm. :x

I did that only once, and when I got home, I had to sit in a tub of hot water to thaw out.
Never again!! I see we are to warm up some, so we just may be able to get out for one last ride
here in WI..

I must admit, we are very fortunate here in the south (Atlanta area). For the most part we have good riding weather year round. Although, there are times in Jan and & Feb when we have to don the old electric riding gear. ;)

I don't do electric clothes, don't wanna over tax the old girls charging system. I do the 3 L's.- Layers, Longjohns& Leather! Plus the city dumped aton of salt over the weekend, so it's still plenty dicey in the corners if you're not payin attention.Daylight riding only now.

I've got heated gloves (and now insoles) and love 'em. Definitely extends the riding season. However...as soon as the salt hits the road, my riding for the year is finished. Don't want to subject my bike's frame to salt.

Got in short "errand runs" the last couple of days. Going to ride to CMA meeting this Sat. morning, then maybe put bike up next week sometime. All depends on weather. So far still looking like 50's and 60's.

I took my last ride on Oct 29th, put in some Startron and parked her in the garage..... :( On Oct 30th we had 12-14 inches of snow, so I guess my timing was right on...........

I just went out for a ride with my wife this afternoon. Too nice a day not to! The last ride of the season is some time away, I hope!

Is there a "riding season"? In NorCal, that would be year round. Get's cold (29 is my recorded low ride day) but I don't have any snow or salt issues to deal with.
Can't imagine parking the Wing and not riding for any length of time. I am on the road pretty much Monday thru Friday and some on the weekends.

Guess that is why it costs so much to live in California.......

November the first - it hit 11 C here in the Great (soon to be) White North, and I got a 170 km ride in. First ride in a couple of weeks. I got the oil good and hot, and then changed it, and so begins the start of another storage season.
It ain't about the destination - it's all about the journey

I put my M109R away for the season. I bought the Wing to ride over the winter. That fairing really helps when it's cold out!
Some scientists claim that hydrogen, because it is so plentiful, is the basic building block of the universe. I dispute that. I say there is more stupidity than hydrogen, and that is the basic building block of the universe.

My last ride might be from garage to storage.....about 100 yards. :( Wish the snow would stay away.

I live in Houston now, just had by belts and valves done to get ready for the comfortable time of year.
When I lived near Ft Worth in the 80's, I used to ride my sole means of transport, a cb750 year around. 35 degrees and 35 miles of highway made by knees ice white and ice cold, but when I got home from my evening shift, I'd just cuddle up to my (ex)wife.
She really liked it:)
