GL650 Fairing Removal

Post by MoS Chuin » Wed Jul 13, 2016 11:04 pm

Hello all,

I have a GL650 SilverWing and was toying with the idea of removing the fairing. It sits at the perfect height where it chops my field of view. I have been looking for a headlight bucket, and turn signals to put in place of the fairing. Does anyone know of parts that would work? Has anyone taken the fairing off their 650? Any information would be appreciated.

Thanks

Fairly easy and you will need some new hardware... go to the CX500 forum, they have all the best resources there for the GL/CX 500 or 650s... may find the parts you need there and a buyer for your items you take off... The fairing is the same for the Goldwing of that era so may find a fairing buyer here too...

Thank you Flogger, I will check it out.

My GL looks very similar to the red one, but without anything on the back. If I could make it look like the red one, the fairing would stay on, as it would look balanced front to back. Right now, it has no trunks or saddle bags, so it looks unbalanced. If anyone has a set up like the one in red above, please let me know, as I would be interested in buying that.

If you have the trunk, you can get new or old extenders to allow for the rear seat and the trunk to be used as in my pic... Replacement (used OEM) saddle bags are on ebay in all kinds of conditions and colors... again, the CX500 forum can help there too... the "Interstate" models came dressed as in my pic... a basic Silverwing was naked or fairing only... lots of folks on that site dressing, undressing, trading, selling etc- all the parts going on n off... BTW, you can click on my thumbnail pix to see it full size...

So I searched the local Craigslist for Honda Motorcycle. I got a fairing, trunk and hard side bags from a 1983 Goldwing. The colors match, and the fairing has a taller windshield. I will be installing the GoldWing rear equipment on my SilverWing. It may take some fabrication but I will get it installed. Has anyone else done this?

You can just swap the wind shields if the height is your issue. The Goldwing saddlebags and trunk will require some modification... Have you gone to the CX500 forum? Lots have done what you ask...

Yes, I posted almost the same post in both places, the 500 one is a new thread. If it turns out to not work, I should be able to get my money back out. So I will give it a shot, probably next weekend. Thank you for letting me know there will be some modification needed.
