Post by Jcarbone2366 » Fri Mar 10, 2017 7:10 pm

Does anyone "Triple Tow" with Goldwing behind a fifth wheel?

Here is a pic of my question....Not my set up.... However I am looking to do it and would like feedback.

Thank you much!

Check with your state DMV - it's illegal in many states, and restricted in others. In California, for instance, you need a commercial Class A license, with the right endorsements, and you're limited to a max length of 65 feet.

Done it in the past but not with a fiver. I had a camper trailer, hitch mounted, and a boat behind. Had to unhook the boat to back the rig up, cause I could not see the boat from my mirrors till it was already starting to jacknife. If the person in the picture you provided can back that whole rig, he/she is a better backer than I.
It ain't about the destination - it's all about the journey

It's not that hard to do. the rear trailer will follow within a foot of the 5th wheels tracks in a corner, the slower you go the greater the distance. You don't even attempt to back up more than a few feet. We pull a 6x10' enclosed trailer with the bike in it when we don't take the boat. I don't have it at the moment, but Google double tow and you'll find a list of state laws. Most states allow it with different rules.

Yes. Repeatedly. But with different setups than you want to do.
First I had crew cab ford pickup pulling a 28' length by 10' beam boat pulling a jetski. Only went from Columbus to Lake Cumberland with that setup. No cop ever bothered me about it. Several truckers talked about it. But that's only OH and KY.

Second I had Expedition towing a MC towing a MC pull-behind trailer. OH, KY, and TN. Again, never stopped or looked at by cops.

My experience is keep it centered in your lane, handle your weight, brakes, speed, etc properly and you may get by. Be over your head, or just look like you're over your head and even drivers may alert the police to your presence.

As stated by others, each state has their own rules and CA has their own special requirement.

I believe that in New Jersey you would get a ticket for that.
You are allowed to tow just one trailer and the total length
of the entire rig is limited to 62 feet.
"Welcome to New Jersey, the state where anything that is fun is illegal" :D :D :D
