Share some camping pictures new or old?

Post by tylers883 » Fri Aug 04, 2017 11:49 am

I love seeing people manage to fit their camping gear on their bike, pics that show a campsite where everything was packed onto 1 or 2 bikes, etc.

Please share pics of you set up, inventions, packed and unpacked gear. I know it will inspire me and pretty certain it will do the same witj others.

I was just looking at your photos and noticed the lights hanging from the supports. They look to be wired into the trailer if I see it correctly.

What lights are you using and how are you powering them? I'm assuming you remove them before taking down the trailer.

If I am around power, the previous owner wired in a power hookup and ran that into the main trailer and attached it to the support pole. Doesn't seem to interfere with or damage anything in the tent so I kept it in and use when I am in a campground with power.

They are two sets of these LED strips:

They are $1.49 apiece, I bought eight of them and cut them apart into two lengths of four. I soldered them to longer wires, and hot-glued a pair of neodymium magnets off eBay to the back of each unit - those are those nice strong magnets you see everywhere. The magnets hold them in place on the steel bar supports.

I hooked them to a 12 volt PWM LED dimmer like this one. Otherwise they are WAY too bright at night.

They are powered by either a 12 volt gel cell that lives in the lower cargo area, or by a 12 volt power supply that plugs into 110VAC, which also charges the gel cell. The same 12 volts also powers a cell phone charger.

Here we go. I have everything I need in the bike. Tent, sleeping bag, mattress pad, cook stove , lantern, food and extra change of clothes and frog toggs and some extra tools. That 1500 holds a lot of gear, unlike the 1800 I have now. Prolly why I just bought another 1500 with a side car. Now my lady friend can bring her big purse. hahaha

Went camping for the first time in years in Big Sur State Park a week ago. Picked up some new camping gear, technology has sure changed. Instead of a mattress pad used a sleeping cot. Neat item, kept me off the ground and very comfortable.

Even goes back in the case the way it should. Not a lot of pictures of the camp site:

It was a bit cool as the night went on. Will be looking into more camping gear. Found one post somewhere, where the fellow camped but did not cook. Stayed at campgrounds with a restaurant close by.

Like Wingadmin's setup.

Cheers

Nice ride! Do you have a trailer hitch on your bike? If you do, Peter Severs, who rode his '06 1800 around the world came up with some interesting mods and one of them was a small box that fit into a trailer hitch. He carried his bike cover and security chain in it. A small unit that stored a few of the less used items. I took this idea and had an aluminum rack made for mine:

Put a small LED light strip ($12.00) on for signals and brake lights - intend to double up the strip for more visibility. The rack is light, measures 17"X7". A small tool box from the local parts store ($15.00) fits. I used it for the tent and sleeping cot. Easily removed to take in at night as well. Does not stick out past the upper trunk. Also like the weight being down low. Total for the rack was $100.00 CDN - parts and welding. Will be making some different rack attachments depending on what I am doing.

Just a thought. Cheers

Thanks for the compliment. Yes there is a hitch on the bike and I used it to pull a kwik kamp trailer when riding two up with my beautiful sensitive life partner..... but sometimes I just get away by myself and go lite. I used to be a pretty serious white water kayaker and could go for two weeks out of a 12 foot white water kayak self contained. I sold that black 1500 with 170,000 miles on it and bought an 1800. I should have kept the 1500. Not any where near the room in the 1800. That's prolly why I just bought another 1500 with a Ca. side car. Now my lady friend can carry her large purse. hahahaha

Last trip out was with our new (to us) trailer. We were able to bring our four person tent, and our camp cots. We cook on the road so we had our small two burner camp stove, cook ware, and food. Of course we had sleeping bags, mattresses, pillows and extra blankets. fresh hot coffee in the mornings with bacon and eggs! Oh such a wonderful 5,000 mile tour!
