Marker Light Short Out?

Postby moose4jesus » Mon Apr 09, 2012 4:44 am

Yesterday I was removing the Bates side bags which involved un-wiring the rear marker lights on the bags. These were only marker and turn-signal combo lights and not a break light. I am thinking I shorted something out because now the tail light itself does not work and the break light does, plus the front marker lights on the Vetter fairing do not come on but all turn signals work. Any ideas as to were to begin? I can't find a fuse panel to inspect and don't see any melted or damaged wires at first glance. Thanks for sharing the wisdom.

Look at the wiring schematic in your manual, you have evidently crossed your wiring or the bulb has blown out on the running light filament. Brown is the color for the running lights connection to your tail/brake light

Thanks D2D. I am definitely an amateur electrician at best. Do you know what I should look for in the fairing? The original 9 pin connector has been removed and everything is bundle wired together. It will be a fun fix! :o :cry:

Here's the color codes for the fairing wiring:

White = High Beam
Yellow = Low Beam
Black = Ground
Violet = Left Turn signal
Dark Blue = Right Turn signal
Green = Running lights
Red = cigarette lighter or other option
Brown = accessory
Orange = accessory

The lights are on! After spending an hour taking my seat and all panels off trying to trace each wire with no success I subjected to read through chapter 7 of my Haynes manual and saw 'fuse panel'. I can't believe I didn't know where my fuse panel was but sure enough it was there- tucked away above the air filter box and after careful inspection I found it, a blown fuse. Go figure. I have new appreciation for the Honda engineers of yesteryear. Thanks D2D for your support!.
