Where are you?
So I'm riding around on my 75 Gl1000 I and see all of these newer motorcycles. I started to think who is all out there that has one of these older bikes and rides them? So I'll start out

Re: Where are you?
It will be a while before the bike is ready. It is a '77 Gl1000 with 85k. I hope to be riding around Michigan this summer and if all goes well I will work on the cosmetics next winter. All mechanical issues this year - timing belts, ignition switch, brake calipers, brake hoses, thermostat, coolant hoses, and fluids. I haven't had a bike in about 10 years but I started when I was 16 (12 if you count my mini-bike) In the past I have had Maxims, CBX, and an 1100 Midnight special. Looking forward to getting back on 2 wheels.

You'll find me riding around the south west area of New Hampshire, southern Vermont and even out towards the Mohawk Trail in north west Massachusetts on my 78 GL1000.

Re: Where are you?
My attention getter is a 76 that I did a frame up total rebuild on 8 years ago. Including splitting the engine just because. I put 25k miles on her the first 5 years. Then bought my 93 to be more comfortable on our extended trips. Now she only gets to go on fairly short rides and when we go to Eureka Springs every Labor Day weekend she gets to go. Even pull the trailer with her. Maybe gets ridden 2000 miles a year. We are in Oklahoma City.

Re: Where are you?
My daily rider is a 78 gl1000. I am currently also restoring a 77 gl1000.
A little over 44000 miles on both.
Southaven MS- Just outside of Memphis TN.
Pic of the 78 ("Black Betty") with my son a little while back.
Pic of the 77 (currently undergoing a transformation to become "Bright red Betty")

Re: Where are you?
Don't get out on the bike much, for good reason.
I'm in Glasgow UK, and the bike is in Muskegon USA!
That said, I try to get over most years and annoy you guys. (This year didn't work out as I went down with flu as soon as I got there!
) but last year My best mate Cyborg and I covered about 7000 miles all over about 8 weeks.
I've previously done two trips and about another 7K.
I don't get the chance here; much too busy working.

'Impossible' is just a level of difficulty! The only stupid question is the one you didn't ask first!

Jeff, I very much doubt that I will make that meet.Fred Camper wrote:But John, you are the most annoying European we like. Looking forward to meeting in Paris next spring.

I have a mountain of stuff I need to do to the house; I've re-roofed the garage and put a new central heating system in the house already this year. Still got the kitchen, garage floor and driveway to do.
Paris NGW meet is just too early in the year I think, after this years break. Plus the air fares at that time are high even with Pete's help, but you know I really will try.

Re: Where are you?
This is my '76 LTD GL1000 "barn" find. I bought it from the original owner and unfortunately it was all in boxes and an empty frame. He started restoring it and lost interest. Apparently the bike sat for many years. When I bought the bike in 2008, it had an Illinois license plate with a 1979 registration tag. The bike has just 7,100 miles on it. I also have a '75 Blue-green and a '76 full dressed yellow GL1000 along with a 2003 GL1800.
