Spark, gas and compression and a good battery. All in the right amount and order.
Start the process of elimination.

If it sat for a few weeks, contamination as a result of ethanol gas may have collected in the float bowl and plugged up the jets.

That it tries to start should eliminate the compression.
Try to crank it as best as it will run,tap the exhaust header to see/feel which cylinder is firing.
Pull the plug wire off a dead cylinder and put on a spare to test the spark. One at a time.
Loosen the drain plugs and verify that each carb does in fact have gas.
Be sure to keep the battery charged up good. The gl1000 with points and mechanical pump CAN be horrible to start with a weak battery.
If you have to,jump the battery to your car for a good source of power.
Pulling the plugs to inspect will tell loads about the conditions.Look and tell us.Or better, post lots of pictures. We like pictures. :D

Also let me point out the obvious..other than Spark, gas and compression and a good battery.

Here are a few simple steps some people forget (those who are new to bikes)

Make sure the engine cut off switch is on "run"
Make sure the gas is on and there is gas, may put in on reserve if it is low on gas.
Choke out.

Other than that - Spark, gas and compression and a good battery.
I love my wings (both Hot and Gold) - check out my blog @ http://wingthing1000.blogspot.com/

Yea....I've been reminded that you have to turn on the gas if you want it to run.

And reminded every time for two weeks after that too.I really wanted to leave her at home just then.

Sheesh.Mess up just one time and the elephant memory kicks in. :D

And incidently, Sohaver, I have found that my posts -- on any forum -- garner much more attention if I list the motorcycle model and a general idea of the problem in the subject line. My two cents. Good luck getting to the bottom of your starting problem. There's lots of good help on this site.
