Please help identify GL-1000 o-rings

Postby Rocketman » Fri May 04, 2012 10:37 pm

I am doing a valve job on my 77 Goldwing GL-1000, and I purchased a genuine Honda top end gasket set (P/N 06110-371-SOO). There are several o-rings in the set that I cannot identify as to where they go . The gasket set didn't come with any instructions or diagrams, etc., and the GL-1000 service guide is no help. I think the o-rings marked as 8 and 9 are for the two oil orifices, but I don't know where o-rings 1 through 7 go. Also, this 'complete' gasket set is missing the four intake manifold o-rings, the two coolant manifold gaskets, and the tach drive/fuel pump mounting gasket.

Any help identifying the o-rings would be greatly appreciated. See picture attached.

Thanks, Mike

As for the round ones! No way of knowing. I think the square one is for the oil strainer cover but my rememberer is a bit defective. Been 8 years since I've been in there.

Do you know where the oil strainer is located? My manual mentions it but the picture is so bad I can't tell where on the engine it is. I wanted to check it for any metal particles.

As for the gaskets I discovered that the 'complete' gasket set I bought from Honda was missing several gaskets, such as the four intake manifold gaskets, the two water manifold gaskets, the cam bearing seals, etc. I took the set back to Honda and he wasn't very happy - guess he couldn't see why I wasn't satisfied. He did offer me a refund, but I still needed gaskets so I chipped in another $20 for a Verah (sp?) top end gasket set which should be in today. Hope this one isn't missing any.

Thanks, Mike

The smallest ones may be for the oil control piece that is between the head and the block.

The oil strainer is on the lower right side of the block just below the head and behind the front motor mount.

Without the sizes it's a bit difficult to identify them but as a guess:

#2 91318-500-000 / goes on timing plug
#3: 91307-703-000 / goes on the oil filler cap
#4: 91306-371-003 / goes on the neutral switch
#5: 91319-300-000 / if this is correct, there is one place this could be from and it's not something that would usually be serviced
#6: 91259-333-000 / goes on the primary chain oil feed
#7: 91361-706-000 / go on the water feed ferule behind the front cover and on the oil feed ferule between the crankcases
#8 & #9 91305 -371-003 & 91308-371-003 go on the cylinder head oil control

I STRESS THESE ARE PURE GUESSES just going by their sizes in respect to the square seal that I have here and measured.

Most gasket sets do NOT come with the oil seals. Most dealers do a kit of seals like this:
