Vetter Headlight~ Same Size as OEM?

Postby 1grouch2u » Sun May 06, 2012 4:31 pm

Yesterday while driving down the somewhat rough back-roads of N. Central Texas to the closest liquor store (no, not while riding!) I seem to have burned out my headlight's high beam filament - I always leave it on 'high' during the day for improved visibility-

The bulb is an H 6017 Halogen sealed beam, and while I'd like to buy the bucket replacement that accepts standard bulbs, money is tight as usual and I'm going to have to go back with whatever is the least expensive route.

Could somebody please tell me if the factory Honda bulb- which is still in it's 'can' on the forks- would be the same size/interchange with the one in the Vetter fairing? It looks like the factory bulb might be larger in dimension than the burned out one, but I can't really tell for sure with it in there behind the fairing, and I don't want to pull the fairing just to find out... (for nothing!)

Thanks guys- this way I can hopefully enjoy the afternoon and patiently wait your reply!

I believe the stock GW headlight will work in the Windjammer but have not tried it. Most Wings that have had the fairing installed have the stock headlight removed and one of those Vetter covers on the stock headlight bucket. I do remember reading on Craig Vetter's website that he mentioned you can even use an automotive type sealed beam in the fairing although I believe the light pattern is different. The fairing is not hard to remove though - disconnect the electrical plug and 4 bolts from the mounting bracket, but use caution when you get to the last on as you have to support it from the front from falling off. I would remove it and try the stock headlight before buying another if it is still in the bike.

I'm almost positive the Vetter light is a larger diameter. I bought one from Auto Zone. I believe it was 7". I think it was only $10-$15. It's been below zero here all week! I'm jealous! We have snow and ice on the roads! I wish I could go ride if I just replaced a headlight!

I'm going outside to measure the bucket on my parts bike and the Vetter one BRB

I measured both. I also found the old headlight that I changed. The one that is on the bike is larger than the one in the faring. The bezel from my parts bike a 1976 GL1000 slips right over the Windjammer headlight!

Yeah, that's what I thought- sorry I didn't get back on here about this, but so much to do, so little brain mass...

I picked up a regular cheapo sealed beam halogen light from Walmart- but intend on changing it soon because the pattern is no good for a motorcycle. I think I'll probably get the kind where you can change out just the bulb :!:

I should have my engine put back together tomorrow maybe- might wait for some new exhaust gaskets though- $2.00 ea at RockAuto :)

The one on the Windjammer I have uses an H11 bulb. Those are available anywhere.
