Engine Ceased / Kick Starter joy

Postby JellyBelly » Tue May 22, 2012 6:39 pm

So the 77 I just got...i was thinking the engine was ceased because I couldn't do a kick start. The kick start arm wouldn't budge. So I took out the spark plugs. Poured a little marvel mystery oil down the spark plug sockets and let it sit a few days. Well that didn't make a difference.

I got a bright idea. spray some WD40 on the external joints...loosened everything right up. WHAT A RELIEF!!!
Moves so freely now!!! The engine is fine.
I just had to share my joy with all you. hopefully I'll have this beauty out on the road soon.

:D

I have heard others say the kick start will stiffen up too, glad to checked that early in the process. Nice that the pistons were not stuck. Keeps us up to date as you get her back on the road.

Will do. She won't kick start...which I didn't expect her to. thinking I need to look at the starter and the spark plug leads.
Just getting a clicking sound with electric start.
Any other things I should check?

Certainly need to put on timing belts if you do not have proof they have been done in 5 years. Ignition system should be your first focus, only then with a great strong spark on all four cylinders should you consider your carbs.

I've been putting off the replacing the timing belt on my 78. I really need to get that done before I put myself in a bad situation.
