THANK YOU FELLOW SCOOTER PUTTER'S.....I appeciate all the help. I have got all four locks out without hurting her. Just one final question to avoid removing the ignition switch if
I took the gas cover lock and had key made for it wouldnt that also work in the ignition?
If so hopefully I can send the lock to someone to have a key made. My closest Honda dealer is about 125 miles away.....THANKS AGAIN GUYS.....YOU'ALL TOO COOL FOR SCHOOL!!!

The helmet locks (2) the shelter cover lock, and the ignition all were the same on early GL's so your plan should work unless the bike has been crashed and locks were replaced. Keep in mind that my Honda ignition key fits and starts others when at GL events, so Honda did not make that many version of the key. Replacement ignition sets are about $35 and the contacts do wear out as they all have high current flow so replacing the ignition switch is not such a bad deal.

"should" being the optimal word. my '78 all match, but the ignition on my '77 must have been replaced at one stage because it is different to the shelter and helmet locks.

I just picked up an 82 that had no keys. I took the false tank lock to a honda dealer and when he cut the keys from the number on the lock they did not work. I then took the lock and one of the saddlebag locks to a locksmith and he made keys for me that do work my key number is 209 (last three digits on the number on the bottom of the false tank lock) the locksmith did tell me that he had to adjust the key cutter by .003 inch on each side of the key to make them work from the honda key code he had but it all works so I am happy now.
