oil leak

Postby shocko » Fri May 25, 2012 1:50 pm

A friend has joined the local Goldwing family by buying a very sick and badly neglected 1979 1000cc GL
One of the problems is that it is pouring out oil behind the left bank of cylinders(#4).
I believe that this is where the timing advance is located. The previous owner fitted an after market ignition system onto this cylinder.
Any advice on this problem would be appreciated. If anyone has a parts catalogue diagram relating to this problem it would help greatly
Thank you all

There is a oil seal behind the advance mechanism.it can be replaced by removing all the ignition parts, valve cover, and loosen the cam bolts.slip In a new seal.
Look under "Manuals" for a parts list.
