Cheap starters for 75 gl1000 FYI

Postby Barry Barker » Thu Aug 09, 2012 5:27 pm

This is probably old news for most of you, but the ebay starters for 85 to 100 bucks would not fit this bike. The starter gear teeth would not mesh with the starter chain. After many hours of trying to solve this issue, I finally removed the old starter gear reduction and installed on to the new starter motor. It all worked and I now have a good starter.

I did not have that option, the original starter melted from overheating. Think it had anything to do with extremely dirty carbs?

could be, it is a lot easier on the starter if the bike starts easy. Plus, there is more voltage to the coils when the starter is not drawing too much. mine starts real easy now. very little cranking.
