starter clutch

Postby thumper426 » Thu Mar 11, 2010 7:17 pm

The starter on my 79 gl 1000 sounds terrible, kicking in and out when trying to start. Ive been told that it is the starter clutch and that i need to pull the motor to do the repairs. Is this true and is there any way around removing the motor?

The engine has to come out (and apart) to replace the starter (sprague) clutch. But there could be a simpler, easier and cheaper solution. Have a look through this thread - it applies to your bike, too.
