Engine install priorities

Postby El Taco » Thu Sep 27, 2012 9:59 pm

I've got my GL1000 scattered, and I'm nearly ready to put the engine back in. Should I hang the carbs in there first and get it in beneath them, or can I put them in later? Should I install the wiring harness before anything?

To those who've started from a bare frame, what order of operations did you follow?

Garcias.

I'd do the wiring harness first - I'm not sure if there are any restrictions in positioning the harness with the harness in place, but I know for sure the engine can go in and out with the harness in place.

I'd also do the carbs last. The carbs can be easily slid into place after the engine is in place, and it gives you a little more wiggle room - and prevents accidental damage to delicate carb parts while moving the engine into place.

when installing the carbs last , remember you MUST remove the air cut off valve, (and don't forget to pull it out from under the carbs, they are tought to get out AFTER the carbs are bolted down)
Just sayin', don't ask how I know , I just do.

Wiring harness should go in before the fuel tank is mounted. I think I should put the rear brake pedal on, as well. Still hung up on engine polishing.
