Front turn signal working?

Postby mermco » Sat Mar 20, 2010 12:27 pm

I just got a 1978 GL1000 and I have a dumb question. My front turn signals work but when one singal is on the light in the other signal goes out. Is this normal or what? They are both on solid until I use the blinker function and I am confused. This is probably a goofy question to you seasoned Goldwing owners but this is my first one and it seems like I have an electrical issue I didn't know about when I got the bike. Thanks, Mark

No, this is wrong.

The turn signals have two filaments inside a single bulb: a running light (which stays on all the time) and the flashing light.

When the flashing filament is turned on (through the flasher), the turn switch is supposed to turn off the running light filament, to avoid overheating the bulb. The opposite turn signal should remain steady, with its normal running light filament turned on.

Someone has wired the running light circuits of your front turn signals backwards, and it's turning the wrong running filament off.

Thanks for the info. I'll try changing the connections around again tomorrow.

Thanks to everyone for the input. Got those signals working today. Tomorrow I ride. Hooray!
