reviving a 75 gl1000

Well, some of you may know, I have been grounded by my Doc for the past couple months, Looks like it may be awhile yet before any decisions are made about my old ticker, not ticking very well lately. So, I did what any good old winger would do, I went on a bike buying spree. I have picked up another older (88) 1500 and then found this 75 in pretty good shape. I'll get picks up tomorrow maybe. Anyway the few things wrong with the 1500 I have most fixded already, need a couple parts for the rest of the issues.
Now...the 75....Looks like will be a frameoff restore. Since I have to pull the engine out to put in a clutch...I may as well take care of a few other potential issues. So it has 37K miles on it. The timing belts have just been changed, a new fuel pump, new battery, new radiator hoses, plugs, points and throddle cables that I know of....The carbs had been reworked but then bike sat since june 2010. I got it started and would not idle and never hit on more than 2 cyl at a time while running...Have been using a carb cleaning additive (like seaform but different brand) for the past couple days. It will now start right up with just a couple turns. It revs a lot better but still missing and backfiring a lot. It did smooth out for a few minutes, actually rode it down the road and ran smooth for about a mile, then started cutting out again. So I will rebuild the carbs again. So from all your experience, even though everything else seems to work ok, while engine is out, what would you all recommend I look at rebuilding/replacing before putting it back in the frame?? Have to start building me a parts list to beg, borrow, steal, or if necessary actually buy. I said I was through working on bikes, but since I can't ride for now, I might as well do something constructive. I have wanted another 75 since my last one that I got new in 75 was stolen in 87. Nothing ever failed on that bike, that's why I really don't know what I should replace while things are out and apart. Tks in advance. and Beaver, I may be leaning on you a lot in the near future..Might have to have you over real often for tacos...

I wish we were neighbors. I've got a 75 that I need to put an engine into from a 79 donor. Just haven't got around to starting on this project. Carbs probably need work as the bike has been sitting for a while.
I need some one to motivate me to get going.

You can always load it up and bring it to Texas for the winter....maybe we could get them both on the road. I sure not going North...it is going to freeze tonight..and I don't do cold weather...anything below 60 deg F. and I want to go further south until it warms back up.
Besides they won't let me back into Canada anyway...
